Jessie's POV
After dropping by the nurse's office to get a water bottle for Ryan, we ran to our first class: History. Thankfully, we managed to enter the classroom and find our seats seconds before the bell rang.
"Ok!" the teacher, Mrs. Jones said, putting her hands together as she walked up to the board, "Now that everybody is here, and the bell has rung, majority of this class will be reading and taking notes. Now, if you all could..."
Her voice faded away as I began to zone out of today's assignment completely, even though I could still understand what she was saying. Mentally rolling my eyes, I propped my head up with my hand as I slowly began to doze off--
"Jessie!" Mrs. Jones's voice rang into my ears. My eyes shot wide open as I sat up straight and looked at her. "Since you're doing such a great job paying attention to what I've assigned to the class, could you repeat what page to turn to in your textbook, and what to do?"
"You said to turn to page 420 in our textbooks and take notes from pages 420-426 about that particular lesson, which is about Greek mythology, and the gods and goddesses the Greeks worshipped at the time," I began, then continuing, "then after taking the notes about that, we highlight the words in bold and write down the definitions. Afterwards, we answer the questions given by the book on page 426 and write down our answers on a separate sheet of paper, which is to be turned in by the end of this class period." I looked at Mrs. Jones and gave her a smile. "That's about it, yes?"
Mrs. Jones just stared at me for a few seconds until she shuddered, probably coming back to reality. "Y-Yes," she replied awkwardly as she shifted uncomfortably. "That's all." And with that she walked back to her desk and sat down as she graded papers for other classes.
The whole class was silent, every now and then a few whispers would be heard, only for the silence to take over once more. Occasionally, I would actually do what was assigned, but then I would just go straight back to what I was doing before, which was doing random doodles all over my notebook. Eventually, I actually got bored of doing random doodles and finished the assignment at least 5 minutes before the bell rang.
As I sat there with nothing to do, I looked over to Ryan, who, in all honesty, looked dead. I noticed her eyes were still kind of puffy from before. She must have finished her work, because she also didn't look like she had anything else to do for the last 5 minutes of class. She had folded her arms on her desk and placed her chin on them as she sighed out of obvious boredom. Her water bottle was now half-empty.
I never knew that for the last 5 minutes of class that I had been staring at Ryan because by the time the bell rang, I shook my head to see Ryan standing right in front of me, waiting for me to get my things so we could get to our next class.
"Uh, Jessie?" she asked me when I neither moved nor responded. "You there?" She waved her hand in my face, and thought it was such a great idea to knock on my forehead, which definitely got me moving.
"I'm up! I'm up!" I replied, looking around. "Wait, where's everybody else?"
"Off to their next class. You know, just like how we should be right now?"
"Riiight," I said, chuckling at the end. Soon enough, my backpack was shouldered and the two of us exited the room.
(Time skip to lunch because I'm not gonna write this whole chapter on every single class before and after this)
Jessie's POV
As Ryan and I sat down at one of the lunch tables, I noticed that she seemed rather out of it. Of course, I can't blame her. Her hair was messy from being shoved towards the lockers and falling to the floor. Her eyes looked rather dull, as if I were staring into a black hole instead of the mini whirlpool in one's hot chocolate in the winter.
