Chapter 4- The superstition

After a disturbing sleepless night I somehow got outta bed. Crying over problems has never really helped. I woke Eli up too...she was a part-time student and worked at a library for paying her bills.

I brushed my teeth and all I craved for was a hot shower. I turned the heater on. Got outta my clothes from yesterday as I didnt have the energy left to change. I turned the shower on and screamed like hell. Ice cold water had drenched me; making me shiver badly. I tried the heater again and then I noticed it was rather dark in shower. The Electricity bill!!! Eli had asked me to pay it few weeks back but I totally forgot.!

I got over my another start bad-day superstition and got dressed quickly. I opened the fridge to find no milk for the cornflakes nor was there any fruit. I checked my wallet to find just a $5 bill. I obviously had no choice than to eat something at the restaraunt that meant  not eating anything since a total of 16 hours!! I am sure I am going to faint today and land up in some poor little hospital!!

I prayed like usual to god before leaving the house for giving me a good day and left for work. Well it didnt really turn out to be a bad day like I imagined because I reached before Charlie today. So much for the superstitions! I just wanted to absorb myself in work today and ask for some advance from charlie to pay the rent. I just hope he is in a good mood!

The next 5 hours went by like air. It was indeed a busy day. There was a small get-together of 10-12 high profile ladies today. They were regulars here and had there monthly meet here discussing things about some club. I adored them all. They had the perfect clothes, shoes, jewellery and not to forget table-manners. It was way over noon and Charlie still hadnt arrived. I just hoped he wasnt taking a day-off. But it was so not like him to not show up at work that too without informing! And it was a club-meet day which he wouldnt miss, even for his son's birthday!

I finally decided to call him. It kept ringing but nobody answered. Strange. I tried again. This time his wife spoke from the other end. "Hey lia...Nikki here. I just wanted to know what time would charlie get to work today?", I was too occupied to notice she was sobbing. "Whats wrong Lia? Is your son okay?", I asked. " Its Charlie. He met with an accident this morning. There is a fracture in his spinal cord and other concussions. The doctors are saying he cant even think of moving for two months!", she replied breaking down. I was speechless. I dont know what bothered me more, Charlie getting injured or me living on road or a slum within next two days. I came back to my senses and calmed her down. Telling more to myself than her that its all going to be okay....
