Jily's First Date

James looked at himself in the mirror and tried in vain to flatten his hair.
"No matter how hard you try it will never stay flat" the mirror said. James heard laughter coming from behind him.
"Aren't you always trying to spike it up" said the voice. James picked up a pillow and threw it at the boy.
"Shut it Padfoot" James grumbled.
"You're going to be late if you don't hurry" said Remus looking up from behind his book. James glared at him.
"Really Moony, I had no idea"
Just then someone came hurrying into the room.
"She's in the common room!" Peter gasped trying to catch his breath after running up the stairs.
"Thanks Wormy" replied James. He'd just gotten to the door when Sirius called out.
"Remember we want all the details when you get back"
Remus rolled his eyes and went back to his book. James left his dormitory and made his way downstairs feeling quite nervous. He entered the common room and there she was standing by the portrait hole. Her hair was down and she wore a tight fitting t-shirt, jeans and black ballet flats. James made his way over to her she smiled.
"Are you ready" James asked before realising how stupid it sounded.
"Yeah" Lily replied. Together they made their way out of the portrait hole and through the corridors. James' hand brushed Lily's as they walked and he felt shivers run up his arm. He thought back to that afternoon when he had finally gotten up the courage to ask her. They had been leaving charms when he pulled her to the side. "Doyouwannacomeoutwithme" he had said.
"Sorry I didn't catch that" Lily had replied.
"I asked if you maybe wanted to come out with me tonight?" He asked. Lily had thought for a moment before replying.
"I'll think about it"
Their last class of the day had been defence against the dark arts and as soon as the bell had gone everyone had rushed out.
"Evans!" James had called out. Lily stopped and James hurried to catch up with her.
"Yes?" She had said.
"Have you thought about it?"
"Thought about what?"
"The question I asked you about earlier"
"What question"
"The one I asked you after charms"
"Nope sorry don't remember it" she said and started to walk off. Sirius who had been listening in smirked knowing what she was doing. James had hurried to catch up with her again.
"You know when I asked if you wanted to go out with me"
"Ohhh that question" She said. She glanced at Sirius and smiled knowing that he knew she was doing it to annoy James. "What about it?"
"I was wondering if you had thought about it some more?" Lily thought about it for an infuriatingly long time.
"Lily!"
Lily laughed.
"Fine" she said "I'll go out with you"
"YESSSSSSS" James had cried, then, "Oh um I mean, yeah that's cool" Sirius had burst out laughing.

"James?" Her voice brought him back to the present.
"Yeah?" He said and then he realised that he had stopped walking. "Oh sorry"
Lily laughed. James hadn't been paying attention but he now realised that they were just walking through the entrance hall. He pushed the big oak front doors wide open and the stepped out in to the sunset. It was a lovely evening, mild and cloudless. They made their way down to the lake and they settled under a big tree on the bank.
"The sunset is beautiful!" Lily commented.
"Yeah" James said.
They sat in silence for a while, and watched the sun set. James was surprised to notice that during that time Lily had lent on his shoulder. Hesitantly he put his arm around her. She snuggled up to him her head now on his chest. They sat like that for a while and watched the stars pop out. Slowly without really thinking about it, he leaned down and kissed the top of her head. Lily sat up.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to.... James stuttered. Lily silenced him as she press her lips to his. He was so surprised that he almost pulled back but then he kissed her back gently. James wrapped his arms around her pulling her closer. Lily wrapped her arms around his neck. James deepened the kiss wishing this moment would never end. Her hair smelled like oranges which was something he had never noticed before. She smiled against his lips then pulled back.
"You're not a bad kisser" Lily said. James only grinned as she lay back down against him. A cool breeze blew across the lake and he felt her shiver.
"Are you cold?" He asked.
"A little" she answered.
"Do you want to go inside?"
"No I want to stay with you!" She paused, "but I do know somewhere we can go." She stood up and pulled him to his feet. Then she lead him into the Forbidden Forest. They walked for a few minutes until they came to a clearing with a little stream running through it. It was much warmer in amongst the trees.
"I forgot about this place!" James said, having been there with Moony, Wormtail and Padfoot a few years ago.
"I love it here" Lily said. She settled down, her back resting against a fallen log. James sat down next to her wrapping his arm around her and Lily snuggled up against him again.
"I could stay here all night" she sighed.
"We can if you want to?" James offered.
"Really! Oh I would love to!"
James magicked up a blanket with a flourish of his wand and put it over them. They lay down under the blanket. James was very aware of Lily's body pressed against his. Eventually they both fell asleep the only sounds, the trickle of the stream and their steady breathing.

Lily woke up first the next morning, with her head resting on James' chest. She shifted a little accidentally waking him up.  She smiled as James stroked her hair. Lily rolled on top of James startling him but then his arms circled around her waist.
"Thank you for last night James, it was truly magical." She said. Gently she pressed her lips to his. James responded immediately, kissing her back passionately. Lily could feel the electricity between them and her lips tingling after they pulled back. They stood up. With a wave of Lily's wand the blanket disappeared and they made their way back up to the castle. They entered the great hall hands entwined and sat down at the Gryffindor table next to  Sirius, Remus and Peter.
"You were out all night!' Sirius complained. "We waited up for you"
"Why?" James asked.
"We wanted details!" Sirius exclaimed.
"No you wanted details" Remus replied.
Sirius ignored that.
"You were out there all night something must have happened" he said suggestively.
"Can it Padfoot." Lily said whacking him playfully over the head.
James looked down at their entwined hands. He squeezed Lily's hand and she squeezed his back. James smiled. Sirius noticed.
"What're you smiling about?"
"Nothing" James answered smiling even wider.
