An Ol' Donkey

It was Ol' Farmer Jenkins who got a new horse,

and his ol' creaky donkey was jealous of course.

So Ol' Creaky Donk looked on to his master,

all alone in his dirty and cramped little pasture.

With that shiny black mane and those shiny black hooves,

with his shiny black eyes and shiny coat, too.

Poor Donk looked down with his heart very torn,

He saw his own feet which were all chipped and worn.

He turned away sadly, for himself feeling sorry,

while the spoilt new colt had not a care nor a worry.

Unfortunate Ol' Donk, with anger growing tense,

ran as fast as he could and jumped over the fence.

He trotted through town on the cobblestone road,

thinking how the new horse was no more than a toad.

He helped an old lady to cross the main street,

then stopped in a field to rest his ol' feet.

As he grew tired, thoughts swirled in his head,

of his master's soft touch and his warm, cosy bed.

His eyes filled with tears as he drifted to sleep,

next it was morning, loudly sounded with 'BEEP'.

Ol' Donk jumped straight up in fear and in shock,

and he heard the 'click' of a turning car lock.

Out jumped the farmer who was losing his cool,

'Where have you been, you stupid ol' mule!'

'Common you ol' donk, we have to give that horse back,

although he is pretty, he didn't quite get the knack.

Even if you are slow, creaky and wonky,

What's an ol' farmer without his ol' donkey?'
