The Reapings

'twas a cold winters morn, Henrietta had just awoken from her slumber. Chickens socialising, mothers protecting newly hatched chicks as farmer Bill approached the gate. Today was the end for Carl the cockerel. You could see the tears of his children as he tried to defend himself, flapping his wings as he tried to stop the inevitable capture. "Remember..." he cawed "remember me! avenge me!" It was from that day onwards that Henrietta vowed to destroy that mother clucker of a farmer.

Years passed, Henrietta and all the other chicks had devised a plan to rid themselves of the monster that is Bill. Sadly, the group wouldn't be able to initiate this plan as Henry hadn't matured yet. In the mean time, Henrietta had developed a new hobby: acting. She had undeniably good skill, and sometimes she would even perform stand up comedy, usually telling hilarious yolks. This helped pass the time and it was entertaining in all ways, but her brother Yolky had taken a darker path. Normally Yolky would be found lying in bed listening to MCR:Black Parade. One of the bigger issues was that there were usually squabbles in the streets. Just yesterday there was a squabble between Ronald and Rory the roosters. Rory disrespectfully took the first peck at the grain. Naturally this ticked Ronald off. He drilled his beak into Rory's feathers and Rory responded accordingly. Chicks surrounded the roosters as the fight became more intense. Bill rushed in and told off the roosters. "He'll be next." he muttered under his breath. The next morning, Bill came with a long blade, clearly signalling danger to all who touch it. He slowly approached Rory, a blank expression on his face, as he snatched Rory from the group and walked out of sight. Rory let out a caw, cut short due to the Blade seen earlier.

A deafening silence spread across the farm, and a guilty look formed on Ronald's face, ashamed, he walked away. This day would be referred to as "the reaping". The few days after consisted of misery, despair and anguish. The farm had lost something that they wouldn't gain again. But fear not, for Henrietta had a plan to save the dampened mood of the town. In the morning, she gathered all (well most) of the chickens round Farm Square. Then, up came Hen Solo. He was the towns entrepreneur. you could always find him selling and buying grains and eggs willy nilly. "the past few weeks have been tough" He cawed."But we cannot and shall not let this affect our work! We must rise above personal clamity!" This was followed by tens of positive caws.

After Hen Solos speech, the farm became even better than before, and best of all, Farmer Bill hadn't laid a hand on any of the chickens. The farms residents had bounced backed with incredible resilience. But as Henry matured, Henrietta grew a guily conscience. would she initiate the plan to destroy Bill the Farmer? Or would she end him ounce and for all? Well... I could dwell upon that fact, or, I could plan out an intervention for Yolky. It seems like this story's ended...
