It had been stressful and tiring trip, yet a successful one. I had fought tooth and nail to get that idol, and survived with my treasure. I pushed open one of the heavy wood and glass doors of the museum, into the chaos of the circulation desk. The giant T-Rex skeleton seemed to glare down at me with its empty eye sockets. I wiped my arm across my forehead in a fruitless attempt to dispel some of the grime and sweat. Holding the pouch the idol was concealed in tightly in my left hand, I struggled to make my way through the people. I waved at Skyler, who had now taken up a job at the museum as a curator. She waved back, and hurriedly turned back to the group of fourth graders she had be hearing around the labyrinth of a museum on a school trip. She looked nice, and not to mention, Dr. Namsith paid her well. I also got well paid, being is most dependable and successful adventurer. I strode through the mummy exhibit, which was swarmed with people. Ever since I had brought back that gold headpiece, there had always been people there.
"Excuse me, Miss?" Someone asked me. I looked around and finally spotted the source of voice. It was a rather portly woman, with soft features that seemed to melt into her face as if it were made of soft, pliable wax.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Could you direct me to the crystal of Avyrith?" She asked. I remembered that adventure, my triumphs and my defeats, and the scar that I still wore on my arm.
"Down that hall to the left." I directed, the memory of mining that ore still fresh in my mind. Very few visitors knew the museum knew the labyrinth like halls and passageways like the staff. I wandered halls mindlessly, my feet knowing where to go, so I let my mind wander. I remembered that day in my Mom's shop, when Tiffany came and bossed me around, I still wanted to punch that girl. Along with that came more painful memories, like when she had joined forces with Stephen, who had been her boyfriend long ago, and he punched me in the jaw. I was slammed down onto the concrete, however, I pushed myself back up. Intimidated, yet ready defend myself, I was thrown down again, when Chris came into the picture. I clearly remembered him yelling 'Hey! Leave her alone!' When he came to my aid. 'Pick on someone your own size!' He yelled, at those words that gangs dissipated, and he gave me a hand up. After that, he had been my best friend for the past couple years, but when we realized that we were going into different career fields, we didn't see each other anymore. I was only jolted out of my day dream when my feet came to a stop in front of the door that lead to the library, and the library lead to Dr. Namsith's office. Without hesitation, I entered the library, and turned the gold knob that lead to my employer's office. Not with the hesitation and dread that I had had three years ago, but with confidence. I swung the door open, but the desk was empty, his pair of gold rimmed glasses sat folded on his desk, along with a small pile of papers, two pens, and a bottle of white-out.
"Dr. Namsith?" I asked tentatively.
"He's not here." I heard Nathaniel say from behind me.
"You weren't supposed to return from fali until next week!" I said, turning around.
"The challenge was easier than I expected." He said, taking off his fedora and setting it on the table next to him.
"Oh." I said, then hesitated, "can you I from me of Dr. Namsith's whereabouts?" I asked.
"Unfortunately..."
