Hopeless Desires

PART 1 THE FENCE

It is late at night. Four high school friends have decided to take a walk in their neighborhood. They live in a small part of town,where not many people were present. Therefore there is not much to see or go to. The moonlight shined defiantly and lit their view as much as the headlights that they followed.

They were among the sidewalk. Looking around at forrest and seeing nothing but trees and a rabbit who just past by unexpectedly. Making a girl named Jenny startled and cease were she stood. Her friends Char,Mick and Val laughed. But only Char offered her a hand to the back to keep them moving.

As they continued on with their nightly stroll. Ahead a headlight started flickering. It was the most that happened since they went out. It caused them all to stand still and watch as the light bulb died slowly. Mick gave a small but recognizable scream as the bulb from the headlight popped. The noise of glass hitting the ground made them quiet. Even though their laughter couldn't be sustained.

"Shut the fuck up"he said in a sharp whisper. He looked at her sister Val in the eyes ,then sees an odd expression transpire upon her face.

"What's going on?"he asked her. As he sets both hands upon her shoulders and begins to shake her.

"Shhhh!Listen"Her voice went serious causing Mick to react with a worried smile. Jenny and Char stopped laughing and listened.

From a distance the sound of a toilet flushing could be heard. The noise was not up ahead into their unplanned walkway. But was instead somewhere beside them,over a metal fence that would stop them from pursuing their curiosity.

"Its coming from there"Val said as she offers her friends a crazy wide smile that caused them to move a step back.

"The woods?...Umm no way"Char said.

"What's going on?We should totally check it out" Mick uttered as he gets a silent response from Jenny and Char. But a joyful approval from his sister as she nods repeatedly. The smile still on her face.

"Fine..."Jenny said as she walked towards Val and Mick,hands on the fence ready to climb over it.

"Wait,you guys...no fucken way okay"Char insisted looking through the fence and into the darkness of the woods. Her stomach interrupted her words. Causing her friends to laugh silently.

"Can't we just go find somewhere to eat. Me and my dad went to this diner from time to time,its just a few more miles from here. Please can we go."Char rubbed her stomach counterclockwise. She stared deeply into Val's eyes.

But before Val could utter a response to Char's request. She turns around and sets both hands on the fence. In a couple seconds she climbed over it and jumped down on the earth. Her feet drowned by fallen leaves and small plants.

"I'm not hungry. Plus I am already here. Do you expect me to climb back over there. Do you hate me that much. We used to be best of friends remember. Friends stick together...come here bestie...Please"Val's smile turned into a sick frown. Causing her brother Mick to worry and climbed himself over to the other side of the fence to comport his sister.

"You alright...should we still go?"Mick asked her, then glanced at Jenny. He watched as her arm begins shaking,showing a little fear. Or is she cold. It was only the beginning of autumn and the wind was weak,almost nonexistent. The tress stood still like statues.

"No,we can't cause we waited too long. Excitement..."She looks with sharp eyes at Char."faded"she added. Then set a hand on the fence,not yet ready to climb over it.

"Your such a killjoy"said Jenny. Her voice stuttering as she said them. Her attention was focused on Mick and Val as they were half way up the fence.
