The clouds were the only thing that could calm my nerves today. London is my home and soon I'll be going across the country to live with my friend, Amanda and start a new life. Maybe I can calm down more if I go get some tea in the cafe. I look up from the crosswalk and walk over to the cafe. It was the cutest little cafe I ever seen and always had that warm atmosphere to it.
As I open the door my ears target in on the sound of the bell that rings when a customer enters or leaves. My nose immediately takes in the strong smell of coffee and I smile to myself. As I wait in line I quickly braid my brown hair and get it out of my eyes. I take a quick notice to how I have to get a new haircut soon while I wait there. My hair keeps getting in my eyes which happen to be my best trait. I got my deep blue eyes from my father and my long brown hair from my mum. Waiting in line didn't take that long. In fact, my turn came soon and I ordered a hot pomegranate green tea. Once I'm handed it I can immediately feel the comfort the tea brings me.
I take a seat and call my friend Amanda who is already in our apartment in Colorado. I'm not supposed to leave until this fall and right now I'm on summer vacation. College will start in the fall and I just want to enjoy my last chance of childhood freedom before I leave. Amanda soon picks up the phone and I hear her cheerful voice.
"Emerson, this apartment is beautiful. I just can't wait till you come down, I'll be alone in this place paying the rent all summer."
I lean on the table and laugh at Amanda's complaints. I listen to her ramble on about how much she's going to travel this summer. After a while a hang up and start walking back to my home. As I'm walking back home I hear someone shouting my name from across the street. I look up and see my best friend Logan smiling at me.
He looks across the street both ways before jogging over to me where I stand. He flips his dirty blonde hair out of his brown eyes and smiles before hugging me in one of his hugs. I always loved the color of his hair and I used to love braiding tiny braids when his hair got long. That would always tell him when he needed it cut.
"Ah, Emerson, it's been one week since graduation and you haven't sent me a single picture of a cat or something weird. I'm starting to feel our love fading."
I smile and shake my head and we continue walking. He invites me to a new monumental park tomorrow before I say goodbye and head onto my street as we separate ways.
As I walk up to my cottaged home I checked the mail and noticed it was only bills that my dad and mum need to pay. They are leaving tomorrow morning for a trip that will last most of the summer so I have to to get up early to say goodbye. As I walk in I see mum washing dishes like there's no tomorrow.
You know how each household has a certain smell that makes it feel like home? Yea that's the first thing I notice here. I breathe in the smell of sandalwood and vanilla and know that I'm home. I walk in the kitchen to see my mum, Penny, and lean against the counter.
"Mum I can do the rest you need to focus on packing for your trip. I will keep the house clean while you are away. I promise."
She wipes her forehead with her forearm and gives me a kiss on the cheek and a quick thank you before going upstairs. I start working on the dishes and whistle a little to the tune of a song. After dishes I walk through the living room to go up the stairs to my room. As I walk in my room the first thing I notice is my dog, maggie, lying on my bed. The lab was a gift for me when I had broken my leg in a football game and was so depressed. My parents eventually decided I could use a friend and when I got my cast off, I took her for a run every morning. To this day she and I are best friends.
I roll my eyes at her spoiled ways and changed into my pajamas. After putting my hair down from the braid I had in earlier I hop in bed next to maggie and fell asleep.
That night I dreamed of a whole new world that I never knew of. It was filled with Egyptians and old historical traditions that I had no idea even existed. Magic was all around me and there were witches and warlords.
