the girls that everyone talks about
have thick hair
in French braids
or in a messy bun
or left down
even the most boring colours
like mousy brown
will look good
on a popular girl
the girls that everyone wants to be
wear black jeans
on a tall figure
or a curvy one
or a thin one
but never short
or childish
and average
the girls that everyone envies
have iphones
and adidas superstar trainers
or nike roshes
or white converses
with shirts left open
and a revealing top
underneath
the girls that everyone likes
know what to talk about
and how to say it
and who to say it to
they have inside jokes
only they understand
and their jokes
make people laugh
that's why
you saw me
sitting in the corner of the field,
eating my lunch
looking at the other girls
trying
to understand them
making mental notes
on what they do
and what they say
and how they look
not daring to talk to them
remembering
how badly last time ended
dreaming of the day
i can be
like them
