Eren's P.O.V

Levi and I piled into the truck, slamming the doors shut just as the zombies reached us. Their horrific groans could be heard through the thick windows, and they scratched at the door furiously, trying to find a way in.

Mikasa leapt in the back, carrying a small bundle in her arms, still shooting at the on coming wave of dead.

"Go, go now!" she screamed, hammering on the small window seperating us from her. Levi slammed the pedal down and the truck lurched forwards, hitting three zombies with a satisfying crunch.

We sped through the forest, dodging trees and panicking people who were still running in the same direction. Mikasa helped pull some stragglers into the back, including a tall girl called Ymir and her girlfriend, Krista. Erwin, the leader of our small group of survivors, had thankfully secured a building around a mile away from camp as our 'Safe House'. It wasn't the best place, it was too small to protect everyone in our group. Well... The remaining people who lived through today's attack might just be able to settle in one room.

The only worries I had was the absense of the one person who could keep me calm in times like these. Armin hadn't managed to reach any of the trucks closest to us, so he was either further ahead of us or...

No.

We arrived at the Safe House in one piece, which was honestly rather surprising. Only four other trucks had showed up, and I knew for a fact that almost ten had escaped camp. I shot a worried look at Levi, who looked graver than usual. He had a hardened expression on his face, as if he had prepared himself for an outcome like this.

I leapt out of the truck and was greeted with the wonderful view of the horseface, looking panicky. He was holding a little girl's hand who was crying for her mummy. He shook her slightly, in order for her to quieten down and turned to me. Yay.

"Have you seen Armin?" He cried. His eyes were red and puffy, as if he'd been crying too. But I didn't care about that.

"Have I seen Armin?" I growled. "No, funnily enough I haven't. Because he was with you."

Jean flinched, which was satisfying, but it didn't do anything to calm the raging beast within me that wanted to kill the asshole infront of me.

"Well I'm sorry!" He spat back angrily, getting all defensive because I had pointed out how much of a dick he was. "I didn't know it was my job to protect him. I was a little focused on not being eaten!"

Excuses. He should've looked out for Armin. Why should he be allowed to live whilst Armin was missing. We should kick him out and let him survive on his own. See how cocky he is then!

"It's not a job, you just do it! Armin is the key to our survival, he makes all the strategies and plans. With him gone-"

"How the hell was I supposed to know that?" Jean roared, stepping up to me. He was almost a head taller than me, but I didn't back down. "You dragged me into this hellhole, and now expect me to know all the rules immediatly. It's insane!"

He turned to Mikasa despairingly, but she remained silent, glaring at him threateningly. She would back me up on this, Armin was our world.

"You think I care about that?" I screamed back, pushing him back. "Armin is missing, we don't even know if he survived that attack and you're acting like none of it's your fault!"

Jean opened his mouth to retort but I didn't want to hear it. I turned away, tears stinging my eyes and sat down heavily on a tree stump. Levi followed me over and sat down next to me.

"We- We promised him. That we'd take him to the beach," I whispered, burying my face in my hands. "He wanted to see the ocean."

Levi nodded. He never really had been one for making people feel better but he awkwardly patted my back.

"We'll send out a search party once everyone's well rested." He reassured me. "He might just have gotten lost. You know what he's like."

I hiccuped softly, halfway between a laugh and a sob. I leant my head against Levi's shoulder and sniffed. He stiffened slightly, but relaxed soon after and gently rubbed my back.

"I'm guessing you want to be part of the search?"

I nodded wearily. "I'm going to find him, even if it kills me."

"Tch, don't you dare die on me. Brat."

I chuckled sleepily at that, before drifting into an uneasy sleep.

Mikasa's P.O.V

Eren stormed off, closely followed by Levi. They both sat down next to each other and whispered to each other. Deciding to leave them in peace, I looked at Jean who was still seething.

"If Armin never gets to see the ocean, you'll be responsible."

He recoiled at that, and shot me a hurt look, obviously shocked that I had sided with Eren. But I was more concerned about the small bundle in my arms.

The baby gurgled at me and reached up to touch my face with her tiny hands. I poked her cheek gently and she giggled. Jean peered at what I was holding and smiled at the chubby infant.

"He's sweet."

"She." I corrected quickly. When he asked how I knew, I just gave him a look. He was dumber than Eren sometimes. We fell into an awkward silence until the baby began to cry.

I rubbed her back but she just wailed louder, and rocking her to sleep didn't seem to be an option.

"Give her here," Jean offered. I passed her over to him reluctantly, I still didn't trust him 100 percent. But my distrust proved worthless as he cradled the child in his arms. She lowered the volume of her cries until ut was just a few sniffles and soon fell asleep. Jean smiled triumphantly then handed her back to me.

"You're a natural!" I praised in a whisper, careful to not wake the snoring baby. He nodded.

"What're you going to call her?"

That was a good question. We couldn't exactly call her 'baby' for the rest of her life.

"Jean Junior!"

"She's a girl you dimwit."

"Joan!"

"Are you thick?"

I brushed the soft tuft of brown hair out of the child's eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of forest green, they reminded me alot of Eren's eyes.

"Carla..."

"Pardon?"

"Carla. She's called Carla."

It was perfect. Carla looked so much like Eren's mother, my adopted mother. Naming the child after her was meant to be.

"Armin will love you..."

Jean and I took turns rocking little Carla peacefully late into the night, preparing for the long day ahead of us.

A/N: Sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've got two books going at once and I'm starting another. I'll try and get a new chapter finished ASAP. Also, filler chapter. I'm a terrible person.
