Chapter 1

It was Monday morning and Cheryl was just opening up her sandwich shop which she named ‘The sandwich shop’ When she opened the store a few years ago she couldn’t think of a name so she just went with the obvious, at least people would know what it is. She works with her friend Nicola who she’s known since school. They’re best friends and decided to start a business together, which is going really well. They both make the sandwiches fresh each day and know most of their regular customers. Nicola comes in about 10 minutes later and starts making some sandwiches whilst Cheryl puts some tables and chairs outside. Once everything was prepared they both sit down behind the counter together.

“How’s it going?” Nicola said whilst looking out the window staring at some builders working across the street.

“Good, quite boring lately though, we need to go on a good p!ss up babe” Cheryl said whilst going into the kitchen and making herself a coffee “Coffee?”

“Yes please, I know, how about Saturday night when we finish work?” Nicola said whilst turning and walking out to the kitchen to speak to Cheryl easier.

“Yeah, should be good”

20 minutes later and their usual morning rush of sandwich buying begins. They have a quick chat with their regulars spending more time with some then others.

It’s 12:00 and Nicola goes outside to take a quick break (and to admire the builders) they both take it in turns to have breaks so they never have to close to gain more money. 10 minutes later another regular arrives. “Hey Kimberley” Cheryl greets “The usual?”

Kimberley nods her head whilst looking outside to watch the builders “Doesn’t that noise annoy you?”

“Yeah, it drives me insane, Nicola loves it though, means she can skive all day and stare” Cheryl giggles whilst passing Kim’s sandwich to her.

“Thanks babe” Kim says whilst paying “I’ll see you tomorrow”

“Bye Kim” Cheryl says whilst watching her walk out.

“Hey, did you ask her out yet?” Nicola came in and plonked herself down on a chair behind the counter.

“No, not yet. I’m waiting for the perfect moment” Cheryl said whilst looking to the door as another customer comes in.

“This ones mine” Nicola says whilst getting up and greeting the builder “Hi, what would you like?”

Cheryl rolls her eyes and decides to take a break. She walks out of the shop and sits on one of the chairs outside. Looking around she sees a familiar face walking past.

“Hey Kim” she smiles brightly.

“Hey Cheryl, how’s your day going?” Kimberley says whilst sitting down on a chair opposite Cheryl.

“It’s alright. We had a busy morning. How’s yours going?”

“Quite boring” Kim said whilst looking into the shop noticing Nicola chatting to a builder “How longs she held that one hostage then?”

“About 10 minutes, poor sod” They both giggle.

They fall into a comfortable silence for a few minutes until Kimberley breaks it “Well I better get back to work”

“Bye Kim” Cheryl says watching Kim get up.

“Bye”

Cheryl watches Kim’s shapely bum as she walks away. Her phone suddenly goes off signalling she has a text, ‘have you asked her yet?’ it was Nicola. Cheryl turns round in her chair to see the builder only just getting away, so she gets up and goes back in. “No I haven’t” she says whilst going into the kitchen to make more coffee. Coming back out she hands a coffee to Nicola and places hers on a table behind them. “She’s not even gay”

“How do you know that? Have you asked her?” Nicola says whilst once again turning to watch the builders.

“No, I just know” Cheryl says getting up and serving a customer.

“Ask her, at least you’ll know where you stand” Nicola says turning her attention back to the Geordie.

The customer leaves with his sandwich leaving the two girls alone again. “If I don’t ask her I can always dream of being with her. If I ask her and she rejects me then it’s all over” Cheryl takes a sip of her coffee “its better this way. I don’t have to deal with any rejection”

“Yeah you’ll just be unhappy thinking ‘What if?’ and not moving on to someone else who can make you happy” Nicola says taking Cheryl’s hand “Just ask her and get it over with. She may be gay, you never know”

Cheryl let out a big sigh “I will, I’m just waiting for the perfect moment”

Nicola rolls her eyes while letting out a giggle “You always say that!”
