I whimpered back against the wall feeling the sharp sting of skin to skin contact from my fathers hand.
I cowered away but I didn't cry I wouldn't cry in front of him that would just make him hit harder.
He gripped my hair in his grimy firm hands and dragged me out the door.
The harsh autumn air sliced my skin like a knife. Seeing as it was almost winter. My body going numb from the cold. I did all I could and curled my arms around my legs. Trying to keep warm.
Mark walked back in the house and slammed the door locking it behind him.
I shrink back against the door hoping to find some heat but the cold metal door was even colder.
I jumped of the door and started walking.
I was trying to keep my body warmer.
I wish I had enough money for a jacket. The bills take up all my check though. Not that I get paid very much either.
I shivered as another gust of wind hit me almost knocking me on my feet. My bare feet burning with every step on the cold pavement.
My bare legs almost giving out.
My frail arms seemed to be mad of glass as if they were going to break.
I walked up to the only house on the block with a light on seeing as it's 3:00 in the morning.
I slowly walked up to the house and sat on the doorstep the garage blocking the wind.
I felt so safe and I don't know why.
That is until the door opened wide and light flooded over me.
My eyes flew open and the sight I saw. I didn't know if it scared me or made me feel safe.
Owen stood there eyes wide.
"Why are you here" he asked whisper yelling.
I shrunk back in fear and my back hit a wall.
"I..I..im s...s...s...sorry" I stuttered out. I got up and started walking but my numb legs gave out.
I layed in the cold grass and just closed my eyes.
The cold freezing my body from moving.
Owen walked out the door and came by me hesitantly lifting me as If he knew I was afraid of him.
His eyes widened. "Your freezing Lucy" he lifted me up in his arms and carried me inside.
He laid me down on the couch and grabbed a blanket placing it over me.
"What happened Lucy" he asked quietly, with a stern look in his eyes.
My eyes widened. I closed My eyes and looked away. I can't tell him he'll get hurt. Its not like he really cares about me anyway. I'm just a nobody.
I won't ever let anyone have to go through what I have to go through anyway.
I shook my head.
He sighed and got up. I started to get up too.
"No stay here Lucy I'm just gonna get you a warm drink. I'll be right back". He said.
I nodded and laid back down cuddling into the warm blanckets.
The creak of the floor upstairs echoed through the house. I pushed myself farther against the couch, scared.
Owen came back in and saw me. "Oh, sorry Lucy. That's my mom she's a nurse and her shift starts and 4 today.
I nodded my head. "Okay" I whispered.
He set a hot mug of something on the table. The steam warming up my insides.
"It's hot cocoa" he laughed quietly. I smiled a little. I haven't smiled in so long it kind of hurts.
A woman with long blonde hair and the same stunning cobalt blue eyes walked down the stairs.
She was beautiful. I assume that was Owens mom. She was in a nurses outfit.
She ushered Owen into the kitchen. Smiling at me.
I could faintly heat the conversation. "Who is that" she asked.
"It's just a friend from school mom. Her name is Lucy. She was walking outside and fell so I went to help her and she was freezing with no jacket so I brought Her in here" He replied.
"Oh, alright that's fine then is she in your grade" she asked
"Yes mom" he replied a little teasing in her voice.
"Well she's very pretty and she looks like a good kid, dont hurt her okay". She murmered.
I can imagine owne nodding and agreeing with her.
They both came back out. Little smiles on their faces.
"Hey Lucy, im Miranda, owens mom but you can just call me Mira". She stuck her hand out.
"I..I'm Lucinda, but you can just call me Lucy". I put my hand in hers and shook it
She smiled and me. "Hey Lucy I have to leave for my shift but if your here by the time I get back id love for you to stay for dinner , and then I can have a look at you and make sure your okay." She waved goodbye and left for work.
Nodding my head I looked away knowing I couldn't let her look at me because then she would find out and I cant let that happen.
I closed my eyes inhaling the scent of the blankets.
An odd mix between roses and cologne. Not that it smells bad though.
I inhaled the cologne and let out a deep breath. Opening my eyes I was met with stunning blue eyes.
I swallowed roughly and coughed having choked on my own spit.
I slapped My back and whimpered as I hit a bruise. I closed my eyes and just imagined a place where I was happy.
I dozed off into an endless sleep. The nightmares over taking me and seeming to take over my body.
I could feel myself slipping. Scared I jerked up. Slamming my body against the back of the couch.
I coughed up some spit and felt my body come back. Owen looked at me worried.
I shrugged my shoulders and close my eyes not waking back up this time...
