"I'm here! I'm sorry I'm late!" I ran to town after the bus dropped me off. I was panting hard, but there was no sign of my friends. Did they leave already? Then I heard a tapping on the window. It was Teddy! The three of them were inside a café waiting for me.
"You overslept!? Wow really?" Munchkin laughed. "It's not funny, I was just busy and tired yesterday." I pouted a bit. "Speaking of yesterday, I was with Thief X." Teddy began, my mind froze. "She's a weird one for sure! But how did she know my address?" Teddy looked confused.
My face was stiff with relief and shock, I hadn't noticed I was staring at Teddy. Pointing it out, he laughed at me. Vanilla, Darlece, broke the silence by being in awe over Thief X, much to Teddy's irritation. Afterwards, we continued to look through the town. It was October 22th, there was an upcoming Halloween party. The four of us decided to go together with a group look, we weren't sure what though. Where we live, it's summer heat until almost mid-November. It was easier to dress up in outfits without getting cold. Though, that was only one of the peaceful moments of today.
"Look! A Thief X costume!" Vanilla shouted out. The costume looked like my old outfit, but I wasn't going to mention that. "Oh...yeah. It does." I tried to agree, I knew my smile was crooked. "Thief X doesn't even wear that anymore." Teddy scoffed. "But you're the only one who'd point that out." Munchkin grinned. Face turning red Teddy shouted at him as we continued to look for more costumes. In the end, we bought thief costumes, with VanillaBean as Thief X.
"That was so tiring..." I sighed. "You've been sighing an awful lot. What's up?" Teddy asked me, his goofy smile was actually comforting. I couldn't tell him about Thief X though.
After a not-so-calming movie we each departed from one another. I looked at Teddy who walked me halfway home, he seemed to have grown up since I last noticed. Though he was goofy around me, when it came to Thief X he became very passionate about it. It's really nice to see him working so hard. If only I weren't Thief X... " If only I wasn't..." I thought out loud. Teddy gave me a look which embarrassed me. I wonder if I should ever tell him the truth? Upon arriving home I seen another letter, the same size as the other strange one. It must be from the same person! Out of curiosity, I pulled out the letter and began reading.
Greetings Thief X! I am that thief who has sent you the previous letter. I actually came upon you this afternoon. You may not have recognized me but I seen you with your group of friends. I actually need you to continue reading this. On the night of the Halloween party, make sure to keep your friend, 'Thief X' safe without blowing your cover. One night we'll meet and I'll surely tell you who I am then. Well, until then... Happy Stealing!
"What a weirdo." I said after reading the letter. I did read it good enough to know to have my eye out for Vanilla. However, how did this person know about the Halloween party? "How did he know about me?!" I came to a sudden realization. Someone out there knows who Thief X really is... I then seen another small letter, it was decorated very cutely. The name said 'Lillian Winston'. I wondered what she needed, but still I got changed and made my way to the Winston's home. "Lillian's room should be around..." I peered over the bushes. I knew Teddy was home, and it wouldn't be good for him to see his little sister talking to a "criminal".
"Thief X!" Lillian smiled at me and pulled me though her window. "Hi Lillian." I greeted her. The little girl bounced around with excitement before bringing out a small tray. "What's that?" I looked at it. "I made a snack for Thief X. I had to hide it. Here, take it." She handed me an unknown jelly-looking substance in a jar. "Thanks." I opened the jar and smelled it. It didn't smell poisonous or as if it had anything in it. It actually smelled like fruit. "I made it myself." Lillian handed me a spoon, an invitation to eat it. I began to eat it, it wasn't bad..."Hey... who is Thief X really?" Lillian asked me making me choke on the jelly. "I can't say." I told her. "I won't tell my brother! I want to be a thief of good too!" She smiled at me. She was only in middle school, could she handle it? I've been Thief X since third grade, so maybe.
"Only if your brother Teddy doesn't find out. Ever. Promise?" I held out my pinky. "Okay. I promise." She and I made a pinky promise. I gave her a piece of paper with the address of an old park. Hopefully this risky choice would be worth it. I tried to clear my mind that night but it was just filled of what did I do? The night wouldn't pass fast enough.
