"Why are we not going anywhere?!"

"Because mom, that's what traffic is." I say blandly

"Don't you dare give me attitude young lady. Don't forget I'm your mom"

*sighs*

"Would you at least turn on the radio to see if there was an accident or something"

"Fine"

Thank you for joining us on this particularly horrible day, I am Nancy and here is your traffic for today! On I-94 a car has spun out and caused a rather large pile up. About 25 cars have been involved so folks if you're on the highway in traffic you're not going anywhere for the next few hours. Sorry folks!

"God damn it, well it looks like we are staying here for a while"

"Yea mom did you hear the radio"

"Again with that attitude!"

*rolls eyes*

"I'm moving to the back there is more room"

Good thing I brought my pillow. I lean it against the drivers side back window and stare into the car next to us. There is a boy sitting in the back seat. He looks my age with bright eyes and hair that matches that brightness. I look at him more intensely trying to catch his eyes. Scooting over to the other side of the car is a hassle, but on the way I grab a notebook.
He looks up and just happens to glance in my direction. He smiles and waves then he looks down and grabs something from the seat next to him and he starts writing something down. I look back again and he has a message pressed up to the window on a blank sheet of college ruled notebook paper.

Hi! Looks like we are going to be stuck in traffic for a while. I'm bored so wanna be friends!

I smile and nod then I look down and scribble my own message into my notebook

sure! I'm bored as well. Want to get to know each other?

He reads my message and nods, relief flooding his eyes

So do you live here? In Chicago I mean

Yea I'm just heading up to my Michigan house for the weekend

"What in gods name are you doing?"

"I'm making a friend in the car next door because the way this traffic is moving we are going to be here for another few hours"

"Fine. Just tell me when the traffic starts moving I'm going to take a nap."

He looks at me with a puzzled look on his face

So do you live in Chicago?

I ask trying not to sound like a creep

Yea. I am going to Ohio to meet some of my friends for a camping trip

That sounds fun!

Our conversation goes on for a while. So far our personalities matched up a lot so I decided to make a large leap

Hey, do you by chance want to go out some time for dinner?

I want to push it up against the glass but everything in me says not to. My stomach is filled to the brim with butterflies churning and swimming. So I try rip the paper out and put it next to me. I glance over at him and I see he is putting a paper to the side as well. I think nothing of it.

                                                ~

I look up and see stretchers being carried off in helicopters. I don't have much more time before traffic starts moving again.

Hey so I don't know about you but I have a large weighing question on my mind and I kinda wanted to ask you before traffic started moving again.

Actually I did as well

He replied, smiling

Well I guess we can both hold up our questions on three.

I signal to him 1...2...3...

He holds up a sheet of notebook paper similar to mine.

His says

312-555-4821 lets go out some time

He laughs and scratches the back of his neck with his arm. I write down the number and give him mine.

I take out my phone and quickly type a message

I would love to go out sometime :)

I roll down my window
He rolls down his

"Hi" I say

"You have a beautiful voice" he replies

"Ditto" I laugh
