today i come back to visit you
they say you are well enough to see visitors
i walk in
i am not sure what to expect
not this
you look at me for a moment
i start to think you remember me
my heart pounds
you turn to me and say
my IV needs to be changed
i gasp
leave the room
the tears come out in the waiting room
i cant take it
your memory is so gone
you dont remember your best friend
you think im a nurse
we're not even in college
you always joked how i always looked young
do you even know how old you are?
will you ever go to college?
what is your future?
the guilt comes back
slipping up my throat like acid
this is my fault
