Two days later, a girl showed up on Brian's doorstep.
Brian was on a conference call when the doorbell rang through the house. Matt was sitting at his feet, wondering if Brian would get mad if he tried to suck his master off during the call. But those thoughts were washed away when Brian looked at him, gesturing for him to get the door.
Matt heaved himself to his feet, grabbed his crutches, and limped out of the study and down to the front door. A little bit of nervousness welled in his stomach (what if it was someone Sterling knew?) but his master was here, and Matt was certain he was safe.
He pulled on some pants and a shirt before he answered the door. "How can I help you?" he asked the girl who stood there. She was about fifteen or sixteen, with purple hair cropped short peeking out from under a Hartford Yard Goats baseball cap. There was a backpack on her shoulders, and the tee shirt she wore had a picture of a cartoon squid holding a paintbrush and a palette with the words, RadFad World Tour on it. A skateboard was tucked under her arm.
"Hi." She said, sticking out her hand. "I'm McKenna."
"Matt." He replied, shaking her hand. "Are you looking for-"
"Brian, yeah. He's my brother. I'll be staying here for the next few weeks." She brushed past Matt and entered the house, remarking, "What happened to you?"
"Uh, I fell down the stairs." Matt replied. Partial-truth. He followed after her, crutches clicking on the ground. "Brian's in a conference call right now. You can't disturb him." It felt weird to say his master's name. Disrespectful, even.
"Okay." McKenna kicked off her shoes in the entryway, then made her way into the kitchen. "Damn, I'm starving! Does Bri keep any food around here?"
"Uh." Was all Matt could manage to reply. This was Brian's sister? He could see no resemblance. This girl had no air of professionalism around her, and her skinny jeans and sneakers weren't at all Brian's style. But they did have a similar nose... when she swore in French, he made the connection.
"If I open this rum, do you think he'll get mad at me?" McKenna asked, looking over her shoulder at Matt. She shrugged, popping open the top and rummaging around for a glass. "So, you're Brian's pet, right? He told me about you when he came out to Connecticut." She sipped some rum, made a face, and began searching through the fridge. "I'm mixing a drink." She said, "Do you want some? What do you prefer with your rum? Coke? OJ? I wonder if Brian's got any pineapple juice..."
Five minutes later, McKenna was sitting at the bar with a sandwich and rum with orange juice. Matt had not moved an inch, only gaped at her.
"Are you old enough to be drinking that?" he asked, and McKenna shrugged.
"What, do you wanna see my ID? I thought you were Brian's toy, not his bouncer." She didn't say that nastily, though, and Matt cracked a smile.
"How old are you anyway?" he asked.
"Old enough." She replied cheekily, before taking a bite of the sandwich. "You want a bite of this? It's pretty good shit. I put lots of peanut butter in it to balance out the banana."
"No, thanks." He replied. He wondered if he should go get Brian, or stay here with his sister until he finished his call. He decided on the latter, sitting down at the bar and leaning his crutches against the counter. "So aren't you missing school or something?"
"Homeschooled." She said. "My parents sent me out here to spend some time with my brother." She patted her backpack on the ground. "I've got all my school shit with me."
