I sat bored out of my mind listening to Mr.Green drone on and on and on about some topic I didn't care about. It was the last period of the day before we got to go home. I looked at the clock and saw we only had 3 minutes to go until the bell would ring, so I took a deep breath and waited. "Ring!" I shot up out of my seat stuffed my book into my bag and ran out of the class. I walked quickly toward the exit but heard Nick calling out to me.
"Hi Nick," I greeted him as he caught up.
"Hi Hope." He answered.
"So what are you doing after school?" He asked me as we walked towards the parking lot.
"Nothing I have to go home today, my mom is working late so I need to make dinner for the girls when they get home." I answered with a sigh. He frowned.
"That sucks." He finally said.
"Yes, yes it does." I answered. We reached my car and I turned to him.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I said. Then got into my car. He waved and I drove away.
When I got home it was empty, like I said my mom was working late and the twins were still at school. I walked into the living room and dropped my bag on the couch and headed towards the kitchen. I was trying to decide on what to make when I heard a knock at the door. I ran to get it, when I opened it I tried to shut it again. But of course he was stronger and managed to push his way into the house. Wow I really need to learn to look through a window or something.
"What are you doing here Zack," I sighed.
"I saw you hugging Nick today." he answered angrily. I gave him my best "so what" glare.
"You need to learn a lesson." He continued. My eyes widened in realization at what he meant by that. I tried to back away but he had already grabbed me and thrown me against the wall. It hurt like hell. For a minute all I could see was black. I was quickly pulled back up and pinned to the wall. I gasped in pain.
"What do you have to say for yourself?" He whispered to me.
"It was nothing I swear." I said trying to wriggle away from him. He slapped me hard. I bit back a whimper. Then he bashed my head into the wall again. I almost screamed. He punched me once in the face, and then in the gut. I felt tears running down my face. He was about to slap me again when the phone rang. He stopped when we heard my mom leaving a message
"Hey Hope turns out I don't have to work late tonight so you don't have to make dinner, I'll pick up the girls on the way home I'll see you in about 5 minutes."
The message then ended. "Shit." He whispered then let go of me. "I hope you learned your lesson Hope!" He said then ran out. I picked myself up off the ground where I had fallen. I slowly walked to the bathroom and took a look at my appearance and let me tell you it was not pretty. My tears had left trails through the makeup I had put on this morning to hide the bruises. I slowly lifted up to look at my stomach and saw it was bright red, there would no doubt be a bruise there tomorrow. I slid onto the ground and cried in anger, frustration and pain lots and lots of pain. I heard the front door open.
"Hope we're home!" My mother called.
"Ok I'll be down in a minute!" I called back. I stood up and wiped away the tears, reapplied my make and walked downstairs to greet my family.
