I whistled quietly as I walked towards the throne room, keeping my footsteps in time with the tune. It was a lullaby my mother used to sing to me on nights when I had nightmares and couldn't fall back asleep. I missed her so much...
"Good morning Ivy!" a voice called to me, startling me out of my thoughts.
"Good morning Jim," I said to the hydrocephalic infant who died from his infection. (A/N if you want to look this disorder up, be warned. Images are disturbing. It's basically when a lot of fluid is in the brain and the head inflates) While his body had not been able to develop in life, his mind certainly had been able to develop in death. He served as our secretary of sorts. My boss-man liked to keep the "freaks" around to work for him. It added to the creepiness of his palace, although in my time here I've discovered that most of them are actually sweethearts who just, uh, look weird.
But enough chit-chat.
I had been summoned.
A FEW FACTS ABOUT ME
-My name is Ivory Delphine
-I have the ability to see the deceased
-When I was 18, I sold my soul to the devil, or my friend Lucifer as he prefers to be called
-For over 200 years now, I have worked for the devil, collecting souls of the damned and bringing them back here to suffer for all eternity. Home, sweet home.
-I'm actually sort of miserable

I waited for the screaming of the condemned soul to subside before entering the throne room. As I strode towards the center of the room, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. I could still recall the first time I had set foot in that room, over 200 years ago. I had been so naive back then, giving in to Lucifer so easily. And how I regretted that decision.
"Yes, Lucifer?" I said, no longer afraid as I once was. My first few days here had been a nightmare; I spent every night screaming in my room at the horrors of life here. Lucifer used to come in and put his arms around me, holding me until my tears went away and I fell asleep. After the screaming fits stopped, I began locking my door to keep him out.
"Ivy, my dear," the all-too-familiar voice drawled. "I have a task for you."
I raised my eyebrows in interest. It had been a while since I had had one, mostly because the newbies replaced me. You see, over time I began to discover others like me; as in, people who could see the dead. I think we were now close to 100 other soulless minions, although I couldn't be sure because I was kept in a separate chamber than they. Lucifer preferred to keep me locked up inside now, especially after "the incident".
"I believe you've learned your lesson since the incident, and besides, this is a job I could trust only you with," Lucifer continued.
I guess I owe you an explanation, don't I? Well, here it is: A few decades ago, I had been sent on a mission with some other worker, whose name escapes me now. While on the mission, I abandoned my partner and tried to escape the grasp of the devil and leave his world behind. I managed to hide for a few days, but as I walked farther and farther from the portal, from my duty, I began to age.
You see, if I want to leave my life behind, I also leave behind my everlasting youth, and my years catch up with me. At the time, I was over 100 years old. Soon I was no longer able to walk because of my age, so I layed there in a crumpled heap, crying silently and waiting for the end to come. That was when I felt the hands around me, both strong and comforting at the same time. As I was lifted into the air, I felt my youth return to me. I felt my bones harden and my skin shrink back. I felt my energy returned, pulsing inside of me, alive and vibrant.
And yet, I couldn't bring myself to move, open my eyes. I let Lucifer carry me, holding me to his body to keep me from shivering. I could tell when we came close to the portal, because I felt a deep part of me open up, a part that I hadn't realized had closed. It was wild and free and while I dreaded where we were going, I let the bliss of returning home fill me. When we finally stepped through the portal, I opened my eyes and tried to lift my head. "Shhhh, it's okay. Rest," Lucifer whispered to me, totallly irresistably. We entered his bedroom and he layed me down on his bed. Then he got in next to me and held me, the way he did every night during my first week here. I quickly fell asleep, listening to his breath in my ear.

So my task was basically this: start a war between the angels and demons.
Not really, though the task would start a feud. I was being sent to assassinate a man and force his soul into hell before the angels get to him. Apparently, they want this man to become the next leader of the Order of the Angels, and Lucifer does not want this to happen. So it's up to me, his most trusted worker, to deliver this soul to him. And honestly, I was excited for the mission. It was a chance to escape, although I had learned my lesson from the last time I tried to escape.
"Now I must warn you, the angels have cast a blessing of protection upon this man. But this," Lucifer said as he pulled out an impressive looking dagger, "This should help with that." His eyes gleamed with a mischief that I hadn't seen in a while.
I was speechless. "What is it?" I barely squeezed out. I was in awe.
"This, Ivy, is often called the Maelstrom, named after the destruction it brings. It is easily one of the most powerful weapons in any of our worlds. It should be able to slice through the protection placed on our target. Make sure you get him in the heart," he explained. I reached for the dagger but he snatched it away.
"You'll be leaving in two days' time. You will receive the dagger then," Lucifer stated, and with that, our conversation was over.
---
Two days later I stood at the entrance to a portal, exiting into a place called San Francisco. I could smell the ocean air coming through the portal and knew immediately I was going to love this place. My dirty blonde hair flew into my face, blocking my deep brown eyes from seeing anything. I quickly tucked the hair behind my ear.
"Here," Lucifer said, shoving a package in my hands. I carefully unwrapped the fabric and saw the Maelstrom, wrapped in a coarse cloth, a paper, which contained the address and name of the man I was being sent after, and a cellular phone. I looked up, holding the phone in my hands, and raised an eyebrow at him. He shrugged, seemingly embarassed, and explained.
"In case you need anything, get lost," he mumbled the next part, "get lonely..."
I smiled, actually feeling a tug in my heart. Having his job must get lonely sometimes.....
I turned toward the portal entrance, feeling the breeze on my face and closing my eyes in contentment.
"Oh, and Ivy," Lucifer said.
I turned to him, and was suddenly pushed up against him, his lips on mine. I felt his desperation, his loneliness, his desire to be loved, and suddenly every negative thing I'd said or thought about him dropped away, leaving my heart as empty and raw as his.
When he finally pulled away, he wouldn't meet my gaze. "Go," he whispered.
I nodded, and stepped through the portal.

Hey guys! Sorry it's been like a month. And sorry it's sort of short. Busy busy :c But I'm actually excited so far! I can't wait to continue this story.
Oh, and if y'all think I'm moving the story too fast (with the romance scenes already) just know that Lucifer isn't her real "love" in this story. This is just setting up a background for his feelings for Ivy.
Also, who do you guys think should play these characters?
And what do you think is gonna happen next?
How do you feel about Lucifer and Ivy?
