Every year, I have wanted to enter the school talent show but I can never seem to work up the courage. This year, I decided to do it.

When the day finally rolled around, me and a couple other people who were singing were called over to go through the routine. I was going to perform second last, so that gave me time to calm my nerves and sort myself out.

I decided on singing Let It Go by James Bay and I had my guitar with me. I've been practising non-stop for the past couple of days to make sure it's perfect.

I sat by the stage and watched the other contestants perform. I looked into the crowd and saw my crush Jakob. He was watching one of the girls perform and of course he's sitting in the front row.

Forget the butterflies, it feels like the whole damn zoo just escaped in my stomach. As the song comes to an end I realise that I'm up.

The school captain applauds the girl before me before announcing my name. I take a deep breath and shake my hands out before walking out on stage.

I avoid eye contact with every single person in the stage. Of course, my best friend decided to take the day off.

I took another deep breath before strumming the first chords of the song. On the opening line, I looked out at the crowd and sung.

The more I sung, the more I got into it. The more I decided that I was really enjoying this. As I gained confidence I started scanning the crowd.

I focused my eyes on Jakob and he grinned at me and gave me a thumbs up. I smiled and finished the song. As I ran off the stage, I heard Jakob whooping and cheering from the crowd.

I put my guitar into its case and zipped it up. I carried it into the hall and found a seat to watch the rest of the performances and wait for the winners to be announced.

I sat at the back of the hall and fiddled with my hands. Someone slid into the seat beside me. I looked up to see Jakob.

"You were amazing,"

My cheeks felt like they were on fire.

"Really? Thanks!"

"Yeah you totally rocked the stage,"

I wanted to scream and rip my hair out because he was so damn perfect but I held myself together and grinned at him.

"Hey, Izzy?"

"Yeah?"

"I've... I've been meaning to ask you this for a while. Do you remember the first day we met?"

I nod slightly. "Fifth grade when you hit me in the head with a football. Remember it like it was yesterday,"

He cringed and gave me a guilty smile.

"Yeah that. Well, I've liked you since then."

Oh... here come the zoo animals again.

"And... I was wondering if... you maybe wanted to hang out sometime. Like, a date?"

I felt myself nodding before I even registered what had happened. Then it clicked. I'm going on a date with Jakob. The kid I've liked for years.

"And the winner of the singing compartment, is... Izzy!"

I turn to Jakob at squeal!

He opens his arms which I jump into.

"I did it!" I scream, over everyone's applauding.

"You did it!" He smiled at me.

I don't know what overcame me, but I grabbed his head between my hands, and pressed my lips to his.

It took him a moment but he kissed me back, smiling against my lips and it was the most amazing I've felt in my entire life. I couldn't be more glad that I took that shot because it turned out perfectly.
