I look up at the unexpected yelling of two words.
"yea?"

JP
"What the hell man? You're a grown dude.
What are ya doing with a toy?"
I saw him look up into my eyes.
I noticed as a glimpse of sadness clouded his eye sight.
I found his eyes start to glisten over with forming tears.
My heart dropped as I found the young man who once had joy in his eyes and happiness in his heart now is filled with sadness, and it was all my fault, but as soon as the pain started it stopped.
I found him looking down at his little toy shaped as a tiny box as he spoke.
"This toy was given to me by my father."
He spoke with a broken tone.
"He died. Not that long ago, from cancer."
My heart dropped.
I hopped down from the bunk and stood in front of him.
He didn't stir, just kept staring down.
I could hear him quietly sobbing.
I grabbed his face in my hands and looked him straight into his eyes.
I could feel the stray tears dripping down his face.
"Look man I'm sorry, I-I didn't know."

I don't know what happened but after him saying that I suddenly felt a hell of a lot better.
I smiled and giggled a little, I could tell in his eyes that he really did care, and I loved him for that. "It's okay. it's nice to know that you care."
I said as I smiled up at him.
He looked down into my eyes and pulled me into a warm hug.
I felt butterflies form in my stomach.
This man really did care, he may seem like an old grouch, but truly he is a sweetheart.
We parted and I felt the cold air running its rigid fingers down the slithery slope of my back once again, but this time it was more a comforting cold knowing that Jack was with me.
I dont know how this would work out but what I do know is that even if I don't make it to space that Jack will be with me.
