Prologus

"Come on, Ben!  Run!"

"I'm running as fast as I can!"

"Where's Candace? I can't see her!"

"That thing's probably grabbed her, keep running!"

These and many other cries were heard during the wretched undead's first seige...

Welcome to Briarvale, a town located within the Blackwood, a forest located just passed the outer rim of the Elven High Kingdom's capital city, Elenor.  After the Great War, the human residents were cast out, and banished into the Blackwood, where they built the town of Briarvale.  Now, the Blackwood is no normal forest, no, it has quite the dark history...

The Blackwood was once the home of a group of demon-worshipping necromancers, the Sac'Un Ta.  Their experiments corrupted the Blackwood, twisting the oak and birch trees from their natural brown and white colorations, into a murky black, giving the forest its name.  Even after the demise of these necromancers at the hands of the legendary Arch Paladin Argus, their magic was so powerful that their undead and demonic legions still flourish and walk the Blackwood's forest floors.  It is even rumored that the most powerful of the necromancers, an orc known as Bal'rund N'ir, was able to survive Argus's attack, and eventually transform himself into the most powerful form of undead mage, a lich.

These rumors have been showing a lot of merit.  As of late, sitings of the Inevitables, paragons sent by the Gods to destroy unnatural beings, such as liches, have been reported.  Furthermore, there has been a strange trend in undead attacks against Briarvale.  Hordes of zombies, skeletons, ghouls, wights, just about any sort of undead monster you can think of, pushing against the walls of the town. Our clerics and paladins barely able to hold off the attacks.  Earl Berving has decreed that all townspeople stay within the confines of the town until further notice.

Some say that old Bal'rund N'ir requires something hidden in the village to fend off the Inevitables, others say that perhaps, he wants to destroy the legacy of his old nemisis, and our town's founder, old Arch Paladin Argus himself.  My name is Penndrake Castiel, I'm 16, and this is the story of how I saved the town of Briarvale and brought the light back to the Blackwood.
