A Relationship In Crisis

Part 1

"Will you marry me?" Alex asked, kneeling down on one knee.

Sofia, his girlfriend and the love of his life, just stands there, looking at the diamond ring that must of cost him a fortune, shocked.

"Will you, Soph?" he asked again, searching her face.

Unable to contain it any longer Emma let a delighted squeal out. Running over to her best friend, she hugged Sofia fiercely.

"I'M SOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!" Emma exclaimed, not noticing that Sofia hadn't answered.She was way too excited. Emma was happy when they first got together back their Senior of high school, and knew that Alex and Sofia loved each other very much. The only problem was that sometimes, Sofia was scared to move to the next step. Emma was hoping that when the time came and Alex asked Sofia to marry her, that she would forget her fear and do what made her happy: being with Alex.

Jay, went over to Alex and looked at Sofia. "Are you going to answer him, Sofia?"

Hearing Jay, Emma lets go of Sofia and looks at her funny.

"I... I... I don't know..." Sofia started. "Isn't it a bit too soon?"

Alex suddenly exploded, hurting at the fact that she turned him down. "TOO SOON??? Soph! We've been dating since Senior year of high school!! We are out of college now!!" Alex had been patient with her. After she ended everything with her "ex", who had used her to get to someone else, a year before she started dating Alex, Sofia had been wanting to take things slow. She didn't want to get hurt again. And Alex didn't blame her. He had waited until he thought it was the right moment to propose to her. Alex had thought this was a good time. He guessed wrong. And he was hurt. He loved Sofia very much and wanted to be with her all the time and wanted to have a family with her.

Hunter nodded. "If anything, Sofia, it's a bit too late in the makings." Hunter didn't meet everyone else until Sofia had gone to college. He ended up going to the same college and was in her drama production with her. Before Hunter had known about Alex, he thought about asking Sofia out. That all changed when Sofia's friends came to pick her up for a vacation they had all planned. It was then that Sofia admitted that the reason why she wasn't interested in dating anyone at college was because she had a boyfriend already. Hunter accepted it and moved on, thinking that maybe even their friendship was over. But then he had caught sight of Emma, and he decided that if it was alright with everyone else, then he would stay friends with Sofia and get to know her friends. It was worth it so far.

Sofia started to shake. "I... I..."

Not able to take it anymore, Alex stopped her. "Just forget it." Turning, he leaves the house he shares with her. "I'll be staying with Jay tonight." He was so upset he couldn't stand staying in the same room as her, let alone the same house.

Sofia could only nod.

Jay just shakes his head and follows.

"Hey.. You ok?" Emma asked, looking at Sofia with concern.

"Ya.. I think.. I don't know..." finally breaking down, Sofia collapses onto the floor, sobbing.

Emma sits down next to her, rubbing her back, soothing her.

After a few minutes Emma says, "I should probably go." She started to get up.

"Wait," Sofia stopped her, grabbing her arm. "Can.." She took a deep breath. "Can you stay with me tonight?"

"Of course," Emma said kneeling down again and hugging her firmly. Emma had never seen her in so much pain.

Hunter shifts from foot to foot. "Do you want me to stay too?" He wanted to stay and help Emma but didn't know if it was best.
