Hiya, my name's Brooke Hendy. I guess you could say I'm very... Influential, and people tend to follow me. That's probably why I rule the corridors of my school, and although I'm popular and pretty, I try not to be mean to people, although if the other popular people tell me not to talk to someone, I won't. Yeah, it's confusing; The Queen Bee, taking orders, but hey, if I lose all my friends, then I'll be a nobody.
It all started on a normal day: I was breezing confidently through the corridors,my school trousers as tight as I could get away with, and my hair crimped to perfection. The girls were tottering along behind me, gossiping about the latest juice.
"Oh my god, did you hear that Aaran Findley and Jess Moore broke up before school?" Eden enthused, tossing her caramel coloured hair and adjusting the straps of her bag. She was the newest in our group, and always scooping up more info because she was desperate to prove herself. I've been in school with her for my whole life, yet she only became one of my friends in the last month or so. She used to be this spotty kid with wonky teeth, until the braces came off, her skin cleared up, and her puppy fat was worked away. She now qualified as pretty enough for people like me to know.
"Ugh, old news already!" Jolie spat, popping a strawberry flavoured bubble gum," Keep up, Eden."
Jolie was the bad girl of the group, the rule breaker. When the school said that we could only dye our hair natural colours, she dyed hers the same shade of pink as the bubble gum she was always chewing, which was also not allowed in school. She was often in isolation, which was what the school called what was basically a student who had broken the rules severely was taken out of lessons, sat in a cubicle, and given a text book to work from.
"I hadn't heard," Savannah piped up kindly, shooting Jolie a fierce look," Leave her alone, Jolie. It was nice of her to have told us."
Savannah, however, was the opposite of Jolie. She was pretty and flowery, and kind. Well, as kind as someone of my sorts of standard could be. She didn't go all out to avoid the unpopular kids, but only really ever spoke to one if they were forced to work together in a project, or she bumped into one in the halls. She hardly ever got a detention, and made a huge fuss over it if she did. Jolie was always insulting Eden, as she was new, and was testing her, but Savannah always defended her and made sure she was alright.
"Thanks, Sav," Eden said happily.
"Urgh, c'mon. I don't have time for this," Aurelia groaned, grabbing my hand and propelling me forward," Lets go, Brooke, and leave them to their bickering."
Aurelia was the most controlling of us, and I'm not quite sure why she isn't the ruler round here. She's sassy, gorgeous and intelligent, and one of her favourite pastimes was digging up dirt on people. But somehow, she's my best friend as well.
We made our way to our first lesson, which we all shared: English. Surprisingly, we were all in the top set. Jolie was good at writing about gory stuff like zombies, Savannah talented at romance, and the rest of us just good enough to scrape by.
Aurelia and I slipped into our seats, which were next to each other. Mr Marshall, our teacher, didn't really bother with seating plans, so we got to choose where we sat. He was pretty laid back, but he always gave us homework.
About five minutes later, the rest of the girls joined us, having finally made peace. That was the cue for the rest of the class to come pouring in, followed by Mr Marshall, who quickly closed the door, and went to the front.
"You might be wondering why there's not a starter on the board," He began," And that's because we're having a new student. I know it's not the lesson you usually do this sort of thing in, but we'll spend it getting to know him. Clear?"
