Person A is blinded in some sort of accident at a young age. The injury is curable through a complicated surgery, but person A or person A's family cannot afford it. Years later, (Person A is whichever age you choose), Person A meets person B. They fall in love. (Duh) All this time Person A has no idea what person B looks like. Some years later, Person A is somehow able to get the surgery. Now imagine person A seeing person B for the first time, after a long, difficult recovery. Now imagine their life together after the surgery.
Another option: Person A is born with a birth defect that causes he/she to be blind. It can easily be fixed for a buttload of money that person A's family did/does not have.
