I raised my voice, focussing my eyes on the floor, "8 o'clock. Today. At Granny's."
He stopped and turned, still being some meters away from me.
He frowned, "What did you say?"Still not looking at him, I answered, "I'm.. asking you out."
I didn't realize I was holding a breath. It took me a lot more courage than I expected.
Normally I am not afraid to speak my mind but with this.. It took me some moments to really get what I had done.
Relief filled my lungs and I let out the breath I was holding to look up and see him once again smiling at me.
"Shouldn't I be the one asking you out?"
And there it was again. His eyebrow shot up, his head cocked to the side. I smiled shyly.
"Yeah, well.. you didn't, so.." I said a little more self-confident while shrugging my shoulders. He looked down and grinned, taking slow strides in my direction. "At least.. let me plan the evening."
"I know how to plan a date!", I responded a little offended.
"You chose Granny's as a location for a first date.." Once again the eyebrow did the rest.
I rolled my eyes. Okay.. maybe I was not an expert. I hadn't had a real date in like.. I never had a real date. Not with HIM, not any other guy. So that's a first.
"I'll pick you up at 8. Hand me your phone." I looked at him, holding his stare like in trance and grabbing my phone out of the back pocket of my sport shorts.
After unlocking my screen, I handed it over to him. He typed something in and wanted to hand it back, but hesitated.
"Ah, almost forgot..", he said grinning and probably snapped a picture of himself. I rolled my eyes again. What a dork.
He handed my phone back and I looked at the contact he created: The name JONES and a selfie with his signature raised eyebrow stared back at me. Of course.
"You're a dork." I told him while shaking my head in amusement.
"Just prevention, love. You haven't been out with me yet.. You could easily forget how devilishly handsome I look." , he answered and winked at me.
I looked down again, smiling and turning tomato red because in this moment? I was not able to answer him. I could not push his ego even more.
"See you tonight.", Killian said barely louder than a whisper, his voice being rougher than usual.
And he held eye contact while walking backwards, "Oh and.. Swan?"
I frowned in confusion and looked up.
He would turn me down now.
He would say that this had been some joke to him.
That he would never go on a date with some woman like me.
That I would never be good enough for-..
"Text me your address. How else should I be able to pick you up tonight? "And with that he turned around without another glance and started jogging away.
I stood there on the pathway.
Staring at his back until he was only a small moving point.
Shaking my head I turned around and jogged home.
