I have really enjoyed the theater lately. I find it to be so full of life and joy it makes me smile just to think about it. My wife and I are attending on the 14th. We were lucky enough to receive a box seat. I haven't told my wife yet, I want it to be a surprise. You see dear diary it is also our wedding anniversary that night and I want it to be special.April 12, 1865
The most terrible news has reached me. My sister has fallen ill and she is requesting that I come and visit her one last time. They were special seats therefore the tickets are automatically given to another man. I must go tell the clerk at Ford's Theater we will not be attending.April 14, 1865
Today would have been the day my wife and I would be going to the theater that evening. I have to admit that I am glad to be with my sister, but the tickets never leave my mind. Who dear diary, do you suppose received those tickets?April 15, 1865
