Have you ever felt so different from everybody else that you were shut out from everything around you? Yeah, that's me. Hi, my name is Emalina Mist, yeah I know it's a unigue name but that's my parents for you. Their nickname for me is Snowy. They call me that because I have shiny white hair and my eyes are so pale blue they look white, plus they look like they have ice crystals in them. My skin is tanned, which is strange considering my hair and eyes are white. Anyway, the place I use to live was Canada, and I loved it there. I loved to watch it snow every winter, well pretty much everyday. We lived in a cottage right by some of the most beautiful, snow-capped mountains I have ever seen. Then there was one day when everything turned upside down. I was taking one of my daily hikes, and when I came home half our house was boxed up. "What are you doing?" I asked my mom, who was coming by with an empty box. She stopped long enough to reply, "Your father got a job transfer and we are moving to Narrfaw, South Carolina." Then she was off again.
Now that is a big move from Canada to South Carolina, but leaving Canada will give me a fresh start on everything. The only thing I'm going to miss about Canada are the mountains. Nobody likes me, they are all scared of me, but I don't know why. So I guess moving would be a good thing, maybe I'll find someone willing to be my friend. What am I saying? Nobody is going to like me.
"Snowy, we're here," I heard my mother say pulling me fully into conscieness. I heard myself groan in frustration. "Come on, get out of the car, you can sleep when you get inside," she said opening my door, and since I wasn't buckled in I fell out of the car face first. I grunted as I hit the ground. "Oh my goodness, are you okay?" she asked pulling me to my feet. "Yeah I'm fine, no big deal," I said grabbing my suitcase and walking up to the house.
The house was an olive green color, and it looked really old. It was two-stories, which is good because I have never had an upstairs room. Ugh, I thought to myself, so many conflicted emotions, I don't know what to think.
I walked upstrairs with my suitcase. "Man why is it so hot up here." I said to the air around me as I opened up my window. The mid-night breeze felt good on my face. I let out an enormous yawn, and pulled out my red, silk night gown. I changed quickly, made my bed, and crawled in. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep, and my last thought before I drifted into a dreamless sleep was, I'm going to school tomorrow.
I probably hadn't slept five minutes before my mom was yelling up the stairs, "Snowy, can you come down here we have company," "Who would be here at 12:30 in the morning?" I asked myself as I glanced at the clock and groaned at the time. I pulled on my shorts and walked down stairs.
As soon as I stepped off the stairs, I was engulfed by a freezing cold wind. Ignoring it, and my chills, I walked sleepily into the living room, where my parents were talking with a woman and a young boy, about my age. The woman had short blond hair and violet eyes. The boy had blond hair as well but his bangs covered his eyes, but what I could see of them they seemed to be......red?
"Yes ma'am?" I asked interrupting their conversation and drawing everybody's attention to me. I could see the stranger's expressions change from friendly to shocked the minute their eyes rested on me, and I could see my parent's I'm-sorry looks they give me everytime we meet new people.
"Emalina, I'd like you to meet Jackal and Stephanie Taner, they are our new neighbors," my mother said. "It's nice to meet you," I said shaking their hands, but I was stopped at the boy and was shocked when he leaned and kissed the top of my hand and said, "Pleasure's all mine. The name's Jackal James Taner." I just nodded speechless. I turned to my mom and said, "Is that all." "One more thing before you go," she said motioning for me to sit down, but when it was obvious I wasn't going to sit down she just continued, "well you see, Jackal is in your grade so he will be showing you around." "I don't need him to," I said turning to go upstairs.
"Wait," I heard behind me, but I didn't want to deal with anything right now. All I wanted to do was sleep. "Hey, will you please hold on a second," the person said grabbing my arm and turning me around. Who I saw suprised me, it was Jackal. "What!" I snapped at him hoping he would let go, but he didn't, he just kept staring at me. "Look, I'm really tired so is it to much to ask that you leave me alone," I said trying to yank my arm free. He took my other arm and pinned me against the wall.
"What are you doing?" I asked struggling to get free. "I'm sorry, I can't help myself," he said against my neck. I felt a small pain in my neck and was taking a breath to scream when the pain was gone and was replaced by pleasure. I heard myself let out a sigh and felt myself relax a little. What is this, I thought to myself. Right when I finished the thought the pleasure was gone.
I felt Jackal jerk away like I had stung him. "What's wrong?" I wanted to ask to him but couldn't. I was to tried and I just collapsed right there. "Easy there," he said catching me and lifting me in his arms. I layed my head against his chest and looked up at him. He was staring at me with confusion written all over his face, but soon after that he started moving upstairs. I felt myself being laid down, and realized he had set me down in my bed. He leaned down and kissed my forhead and said, "Sleep tight, I'll see you tomorrw." I closed my eyes and heard the bedroom door close and once again I drifted into what I was hoping was a dreamless sleep, but I was horribly mistaken. The only thing I kept seeing when I shut my eyes was Jackal with fangs dripping blood.
