"Tick, tick, tick" the slow sound of the clock rings through the deafening silence of the hospital waiting room. After many horrible months of on and off suffering with laryngitis the doctor decided to relieve you of the pain so they scheduled for you to get your tonsils taken out. Although the thought of not having to suffer from laryngitis again is more than amazing, you have never been through any sort of surgery before so you have no idea what to expect.

Nervousness shivers through your spine as you await the calling of your name. Sitting next to your mom you continue to panic, your boyfriend shawn was supposed to be here 15 minutes ago but he still hasn't shown up. "Where is he??" you groan to your mother. She shrugs before continuing to read one of the many magazines displayed on the side tables.

"y/n y/l/n" a tall, smiling nurse calls from around the corner. At this point you feel like you could have a panic attack at any moment. Shawn knew how worked up you were about this and he promised to be here, how could he forget about this, how could he not be here for you. You felt tears forming in your worried eyes.

The nurse guides you and your mother to a private room where she tells you what will take place during the next few hours. Before she begins to prepare you for the surgery you ask if they can wait 5 more minutes in case Shawn is just running really late. You lay back on the hospital bed and stare at the ceiling, counting as the 5 minutes pass. Still no Shawn. You give the nurse the okay to start to prep you even with the nervousness still moving through your body.

The nurse places the iv needle into your arm and you begin to fall out of consciousness. You feel very tired, as if keeping your eyes open is the most difficult task ever. The last thing you catch sight of is a very distraught Shawn talking to your mom in the hallway as the doctors roll you into the operating room.

Shawns POV

During a very important meeting with my record label I glance at the clock. 11:00am! What? this meeting was supposed to be over an hour ago. I was supposed to be at the hospital with y/n 15 minutes ago. Apparently my tension is clear to everyone else because they shoot me questioning looks from across the table. After 5 minutes of nervously tapping my pen on the table, struggling to concentrate I quickly stand up. "Listen I know this meeting is extremely important but I really need to be with my girlfriend right now" and with that I gather my stuff and basically sprint to my car.

About 10 minutes later I reach the hospital, and step into the waiting room but I don't see y/n. I walk up to the desk and ask if she's been brought back yet. They tell me where to go but I am stopped in the hallway by y/n's mother. "You cant go back there now she's already prepped and ready to go" she explains and I sigh as I try my best to explain why my promise had been broken.

After sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours I offer to go buy a coffee for y/n's mother. I need a moment by myself to take a walk and just breathe. I am so worried for y/n, I am so nervous that she will be extremely upset with me. I cant believe I wasn't there for her when I promised I would be. She must have been so scared.

I give my parents a quick call to fill her in about what's going on and then make my way back to the waiting room. I return to see y/n's mother talking to the doctor. "We can go back and see her now, she's just about to wake up." Im very surprised when her mom tells me I can go in first. After all the trouble I've caused today that is one privilege I don't think I deserve.

y/n POV

You wake up in the recovery room and the first person you lay eyes on is Shawn. He takes your hand and very quickly and nervously exclaims, "Listen I know you are super upset with me right now, I was in-" you put one finger over his lips to stop him from rambling on any further. "I'm not upset, okay I totally was at first but you were the last and first person I saw before and after my surgery and thats all that matters." you write your thoughts on a notepad because you are unable to talk. You give him a small smile. He starts to write back on the page "I'm sorry, I love you". "I love you too now get me a popsicle, delivery man;)" He laughs at our notepad conversation and immediately gets up to fulfill your wishes.
