CHAPTER 7

There seemed to be a hyped up buzz in the atmosphere at work the next day. Everybody was huddled up, chattering away excitedly with one another. Amelia grew curious.

“Morning Jonathan.” She greeted.

“Did you hear the news?” Jonathan bounced.

“I’m fine, thank you for asking Jonathan.” Amelia replied cheekily.

“Good morning. Did you hear the news?” He asked again.

“What news?”

“The reason why we’re having a meeting with Mr. Marquez today.”

“What? When?” Amelia reached for her diary. Jonathan grabbed it before she could reach it.

“Later this afternoon. I cleared your appointments already. So I take it you don’t know what it’s about?”

“Who called up the meeting? Of course I don’t know anything about it. This is the first I heard of it.”

“Mr. Marquez did.”

“What is it about?” Amelia’s curiosity got the better of her tongue.

“About the hotel manager’s post in Cape Town.” Jonathan exclaimed excitedly.

“What about it?” Amelia asked puzzled.

“I don’t know. That’s all I could get out of Julia.” Jonathan frowned.

“Why the frown?” Amelia asked Jonathan.

“Nothing important.” Jonathan dismissed.

“Alright then. What time is it at?” Amelia started up her laptop.

“At two.”

“So I’m going to have to rush through lunch if I don’t get a break earlier today.” Amelia sighed. “Anything else?”

“Shaun from the accounts department needs an itemized bill from you this month. Something about work procedures.”

“I’ll have it drawn up by the end of the month.”

“You have a doctor’s appointment at four?”

“Got it.”

“Anything I should be worried about?” Jonathan queried.

“No. Just the usual check-up.”

“Alright then. That’s it for the day.”

“It is?” Amelia asked, surprised.

“Yep. You’re ahead of schedule this month.”

“Well then. I’m going to make myself disappear for a while since I have this time on my hands. I won’t be back until twelve so if anyone asks, you know what to say.” Amelia winked.

“Where are you going?” Jonathan grinned.

“I’ve got a few things I need to deliver somewhere. Later.”

Amelia made a turn at the toys store and bought a few toys before she stopped at the orphanage. Once she had the few articles of furniture and toys delivered, she left and went back to the office. She managed to make it back in time for lunch hour and had a light lunch with Jonathan and Cassandra.

Then it was time for the meeting with her boss.

“Thank you for coming everybody.” Alessandro greeted. “I know this meeting was called at short notice so I won’t be surprised if anyone couldn’t make it.”
