Civics was boring. Like, who gives a rats ass how a bill in turned into a friggin law? Well science is next, and then health, lunch, then elective, and then, math. God, I'm not even a week into the school year and I'm already over it.

(skips to bus ride home)

"Hey Kara, you awake?" Roxanne says as she pokes me with a pencil. "Yeah its just been a long day. I'm so tired. Why?" I say drooling on my science homework. I have  one homework sheet for each class, except Mr. Thompson. He gave us all 3 worksheets and a essay on what we learned! Like, it's only the first day, and all this homework?!

Well its fine. Roxanne and I are going to to make dinner for the family. I figured it's the least I could do seeing as they paid for my ticket out here. We are having something I learned back home. Tofu. It may be vegetarian/vegan, but it's delicious. And it's great protein! Yum.

"Are you sure we're doing this right?" She said as she put beef in the pan. "Dammit, Roxanne who puts BEEF in a VEGETARIAN recipe?" She's silent. "Sorry for freaking out I guess I'm just tired." I apologize.

We finish the recipe and set the table, very nicely I must say. It looks like a 5 star restaurant. When Roxannes parents get here, we eat and get very many compliments in our cooking.

"So how did you like school Kara?" Her mo- wait no; my new mom asks. "It was pretty boring, having civics first thing in the morning. I ate lunch at the picnic tables with Roxanne, that was fun." I reply. "So Kara, are you happy that you came to live with us? What happened with your parents?" My new dad asked. Oh no. They don't know the real reason I came to California. "W-well they didn't r-really like the fact that I'm q-queer, so they k-kicked me out." I stuttered. Her parents looked over to Roxy with raised eyebrows.

Oh shit, shit, shit! What if they kick me out to?! Where will I go? My head yells at me.

"That's awesome! We've always wanted a queer child!" They exclaim. Roxy and I glance at each other. "Well, I've been here for the last 14 years!" Roxanne said confidently. "What?! Why didn't you tell us earlier? We love both of you so much!" Her parents pull us into a huge hug. I have tears of joy in my eyes.
