A lot of people, I've noticed, stop after this part. It's boring, I know. But it was the most effective way to introduce the character and show her change from boring school girl to her life now. There will be more action, I promise.
"Allisaria!" She sat up at her desk, black hair covering her eyes as her teacher glared at her.
"The square root of three hundred sixty-two is approximately nineteen. Therefore, x equals 27." Allisaria dropped her head back onto the desk before picking it up again. "And it's Allis."
"That is... correct."
Allis stood at the bell and started for the door, books in hand. She felt the teacher's cold grip on her arm.
"Ms. Grant. You need to stop falling asleep in my class. Do it again, and you'll end up in the principal's office."
"Where do you think I'm going?" She snapped. With that, Allis left the classroom and squeezed around the seas of people lining the hallways, anxious to meet with friends. Paper lunch bag in her tight grip, Allis eased the door open to the principal's office and dropped the bag on the desk.
"How is my beautiful girl doing today?" He asked.
"Hi, daddy." Allis kissed her father on the cheek. "You forgot your lunch."
Hadley Grant was a strong man with black hair and the same brown eyes as his daughter. His skin was a shade darker than his daughters tawny beige. The stress of his position as principal of Lucrine High School was evident on his weary face, in the wrinkles under his eyes, and the gray lining his hair. Those eyes lit up whenever his only child, and love of his life was by his side.
"What would I do without you?" He asked with a smile as he opened the paper bag and gave half of his sandwich to Allis.
"Forget to eat." She replied with a laugh.
"Thank you, Allis."
"Dad, I'll meet you after school. I have to meet up with Annalee." Allis kissed him once more then left the office. With a wave to the secretary, she walked to the library.
