Lydia Green sat hoisted on top of her best friends, Mercedes, car, listening to the roaring of the boom box and the string of drunken 15/16 year olds jig around the abandoned car lot.
"Would you like to dance?"
Lydia's head snapped up at the angelic sound, the sound of Jordan Knights voice. He was stood there, dressed in a black bomber jacket, ripped baggy jeans and a plain white shirt. Lydia was mesmerised, infatuated almost.
"Me?" She stuttered, looking next to her and around her for good measure, to make sure that the beautiful boy was definitely speaking to her and not somebody better.
"Well, yeah, who else would I be talking to?" He chuckled, and only then did Lydia realise she was the only one around, everybody else was dancing by the fire or by other cars.
"Um..I don't...um"
Lydia had no experience in dancing and was positively sure that if she took this absolutely beautiful boys hand, she would make a complete fool out of herself, I front of him and his friends.
"Cmon" he giggled, pulling her up carefully and dragging her towards a more darkened place of the lot, the street lights on them and the boom box playing in the distance. Lydia was baffled and puzzled. What was happening?
Jordan was one of the most popular people she knew, him and his older brother were like, the coolest kids in Boston! She was mentally preparing herself for the joke to be over, for him to throw an egg at her or a water balloon or something!
But he didn't, he only interlocked their fingers and placed a soft hand on her waist.
"I like you, Lydia Green" he said softly and suddenly. Lydia looked him straight in the eye. " I really like you."
Lydia couldn't speak, she didn't even know he knew she existed, and now he was telling her he liked her with his hand gripping her waist as they moved with one another, alone.
"You're drunk" she shook her head and fake smiles at the floor. She hoped he wasn't drunk.
"Maybe a little, but I haven't been drunk for the past three months" he sheepishly smiled, he never broke eye contact, even when she did.
"You've liked me for three months?" She said, confusion ridden within her tone.
"I can't help it, you're something else, Lydia Green, you're really something else" he smiled, his cheeks were red and he was scratching the back of his neck. Lydia's blood rushed to her cheeks. Nobody had ever looked and talked about her this way and she never imagine anybody ever doing so.
"Is that a good thing or?-
She didn't finish the sentence. She couldn't. She was otherwise preoccupied.
Jordan's lips were soft, and they tasted like cherries with a hint of Budweiser.
His hands were cold, as they lay gently on the side of her face.
His hair was so silky, as Lydia ran her cold and shaky hands through it, griping gently.
Lydia Green smiled into the kiss and Jordan Knight smiled back.
"Hey, Jordie, time to go home or ma will kill us man!" Jons voice broke the kiss apart, but the eye contact remained.
"You want a ride back?" Jordan eventually said, after comfortable and prolonged eye contact.
"I'd like that" Lydia smiled, interlocking their fingers and following the sounds of Jons voice.
Lydia studied the side of Jordan's face carefully as he walked. This was real. It was happening. This was really happening. She blushed instantly, she knew this wasn't a joke.
It was only a kiss, but Lydia already felt like it could be so much more.
