She saw the world through dazed eyes
Cotton candy and white lies
Her heart brimmed with undying love
For the world around her
For the sky above
Her eyes were focused on a polished light
That kept the darkness
Out of her sight

But then the demons invaded her heart
They broke their way in
Like it was an art
Her relentless love that was taught to linger
Was replaced by hatred
At the snap of a finger
For these demons showed
Not a hint of compassion
They annihilated her joy in a timely fashion
The demons left her looking for happiness
But all she could find was the pain
Of sorrow and madness

One by one things fell apart
Betrayal occurred and broke her heart
No longer could her sadness
Be put to an end
By the hug of a mother
Or the laughs of a friend
The demons locked her in a cage
She was sure she would stay
Until an old age

No longer did she participate
In her clubs and her sports
The demons claimed they were more important
Than a pair of old volleyball shorts
Her family and friends
Would try to console her
But she would shut them out
Since love made her sore

They eventually lost all and any hope
For with her sadness they could no longer cope
They left her to soak in her own despair
Her heart so broken
It was far from repair

Eventually she become numb to the mourn
For her heart was so empty
It could no longer be torn
Far from love
The demons became her only companion
For after all
They were the only creatures
That lived in her heart shaped like a canyon
