The Breakup

That night was amazing I really didn't want it to end. It wasn't like in the movies where everything was magical and then at the end of the night the boy kisses the girl and they live happily ever after.

After the movies. Aaron guided me to the games room with my hand in his the entire journey.

Persons were staring as we stepped over couples and friends who were still on the lawn. Not uncomfortable at all.

The game room was pretty much empty when we arrived. I'm guessing everyone was either around the bonfire or still on the lawn.

Not that I'm complaining.

When Aaron had told me to meet him in the games room the night before I wasn't expecting an actual set up for us to talk.

Aaron had somehow pushed back the chairs and couches to the walls and there was space for us to spread the blanket. He took some pillows from a couch that I know wasn't there before and laid them on the blanket.

It wasn't anything big but it felt so good to know he had been thinking about this moment and it wasn't only me.

"Where'd you get those pillows?", I asked genuinely concerned.

He chuckled. "I'm actually a pillow person. I sleep with about 8 pillows on my bed at home. So I brought some extras in case the camp coordinators wouldn't be too pleased with lending a boy an extra 7 pillows".

I smiled. "So you're a pillow person huh? Cute".

"So you think I'm cute?", he turned to face me.

We were both now sitting down on the blanket with the pillows around us and between our backs and the couch we were leaning on.

"Maybe I do. Is there a problem?", I joke sassed.

"Not at all. Because I think you're cute too".

Cues huge blush from Ari. Well you couldn't really see it because of my dark skin. Thank God. But the huge grin on my face was equally as embarrassing.

"Actually, I think you're beautiful", Aaron bursted out after a few seconds of smiling and me grinning like it was Christmas morning.

Yep. And here comes the molten heart.

"Thank you". I replied in a small voice. Come on Ari. You could've done better.

"I know you must be wondering why I'm stalling. I know you're only here to hear about my previous breakup. So let me get in to it"

What? Before I could tell him otherwise he continued.

"Her name was Christine".

"No. I think I want to go first. Can I?" I wanted to get this off my chest so I could pay full attention to his story and not be distracted by thinking of how he would respond after he heard my story.

He nodded and so I dived into everything. Sparing him the intimate parts of Amar and I's story. I may not still be with him but I still respect his privacy.

Aaron was speechless afterwards for a good 10 seconds.

"Wow, I'm sorry to hear", he finally says.

"No, I'm pass that now. It's ok", I laughed. "Your turn".

"Right", he cleared his throat, "As I was saying. Her name is Christine and we were together for 7 months. Everything was perfect then 4 months in and I thought I was in love and I told her. Surprisingly she said she loved me as well and I believed every word of it.

"She was actually my first girlfriend after a year so I was a bit rusty. But I knew something wasn't right 5 months in when she started to distance herself. She started leaving one word text messages instead of her paragraphs.", he says with a deep sigh.
