| Imelda's POV |
"Orenda (n.) — a mystical force present in all people that empowers them to affect the world, or to effect change in their own lives."
I tucked a strand of my black hair behind my ear and pushed my glasses back to the bridge of my nose before continuing to read from the worn out pages of the book. Besides the worn out pages, you could tell that it was ancient, considering its poor condition; the writing was faded and the pages had stains, along with some of the pages ripped out. The gold edges inscribed in the corners of the thick, red cover was dull and it was hidden behind a stack of books and covered in dust when I found it on the forbidden section of the library.
Why was it placed there? I don't know. I would have asked Anna -the founder of the guild- but she would have questioned me on why I was in the forbidden section of the library.
-
You see, I had always felt slightly monachopsis because my other guild mates were older than me, meaning that their magic are advanced due to their longer duration of education. I was studying in the library in order to develop my magic so I can achieve the ability to control minds, despite already being able to use telepathy and read minds.
One day, I happened to accidentally stumble across the forbidden section of the library. I was about to exit that section until I felt a strong pulling attraction which lead me to the discovery of the book I was currently reading. For some reason, I felt attracted to that book, so I took it and started reading it, like what I am doing right now.
Well, until I accidentally dropped the pencil I was using to take notes that is.
—
The pencil made contact with the wooden floor, creating a small 'clunk'. I carefully picked it up, not wanting to wake up one of my guild mates who was resting in my room. Unfortunately, my guild mate woke up. Whoops.
"Imelda, why are you not asleep yet? I know sleep is for the weak, but tomorrow is an important occasion."
That's Lotte. She has been a member of the guild for a long time. She uses ice make magic. She's also a dragon slayer like Anna, except Anna is a water dragon slayer.
"Sorry, I'll go to sleep now." I said. I went up to my bedside table and placed my glasses on the table and hid the book inside.
I climbed onto my bed and slipped into my blanket, turning away from the direction where Lotte is facing.
-
The truth is, I've been having these nightmares. Normally, they wouldn't scare me, but I've been having the same one for weeks and it seemed like a prophecy; that it was going to happen in the future. That was the other reason I came to the library and was reading the book to avoid sleeping.
There are rooms in the guild where we are all supposed to stay in and it's optional to have a roommate. I asked Lotte to stay with me for the night, but I wasn't ready to tell anyone that I've been having these nightmares, so I didn't state the reason. She accepted the request, respected my decision and decided to wait until I'm ready to tell her what's been bothering me.
I dread of experiencing the same nightmare again, but I knew I had to sleep. So I did.
-
I was having the same dream- I mean, nightmare again.
I was stuck in a dark room. The only source of light was a glowing ball that floated in the center. I steered clear away from it, but the walls pushed me towards it as the room started decreasing its size. In that ball, I saw visions of darkness. In other words, the world in complete and utter chaos, and all because of me.
"Your Orenda," A chilling whisper reached my ears.
"Your Orenda is filled with darkness, unleash it," the voice hissed, "Let the darkness consume you, and the world."
"No!" I cried out, desperately trying to wake up from this nightmare.
But I knew I couldn't.
I felt someone's cold hand on my shoulder, grazing my arm as the hairs on my arm rose. I was about to scream, but the person's other hand went over my mouth. I bit his/her hand, and that person let out a ear-piercing howl. Then, everything went out.
