Steven was walking around, kicking rocks and dirt. "This is kinda boring.", Connie told Steven. "Don't say that, we're on a mission! We're suppose to be looking for leftover technology thingies!" Steven exclaimed. "Well why is it just you and me? Not that I have anything against it," She blushed," Just wondering." Steven quickly responded, "Pearl and the rest are still looking for Jasper, and she wanted to see if we could handle it. Come on! I know we can!" Steven ran ahead, looking for anything shiny. He noticed a small glimmer coming from a hole, and walked over to it. "Hey Connie! I think I found something!" He reached into the hole, and a mutant gem was there, as it screeched incredibly loudly. "Steven, what IS that thing?!", shouted Connie. "I don't know, but it's loud!" Steven hit it with his shield, poofing the beast. The Kindergarten shook, for unknown reasons. They walked back outside, and looked upwards along with walls. Gem mutants of all shapes and sizes began climbing out of the wall, awoken by the loud noise. "Oh man, we gotta get out of here! Which way do you think the warp pad is Connie?" "Steven! Hurry, it's this way!", shouted Connie. "I'm running as fast as I can, and that's not very fast!", he exclaimed, racing towards her. "Where even is the exit? It's gotta be around here somewhere, right?", Connie wondered. "I, I don't know! Usually Pearl or Garnet would lead the way!" Multiple gem mutants ambushed Connie, while a stray arm managed to trip Steven. He kicked it off, but Connie was struggling to ward off the mutants. Claws slashed at her, before she managed to cut open and poof the monsters. Small amounts of blood gushed from her arm, as Steven panicked. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, ok I can fix this, hold on!" Steven pulled out a Cookie Cat Brand Band-Aid, and stuck it on her cut, barely closing it. "Better?" "Uh, yeah, sure." "Ok let's go!" Steven ran in front of Connie, looking around for the warp pad home. Hordes of mutants poured from the Kindergarten's walls, from small feet and hands, to entire bodies with multiple limbs. "This way!" Steven pointed to a cavern entrance, and bolted towards it, holding Connie's hand. "Steven are you sure? I don't remember a cavern." "I'm almost positive! Come on!", Steven said, entering the cavern. His shield gave off ample light, allowing them to see. The mutants closed in on the entrance, slowly slugging behind them. "Come on, we've got to keep going!" Mutants managed to ambush them from the ceiling, and dropped down on Steven's shield, knocking him back. Connie quickly cut open one, while the other was stepping on Steven, with him barely able to keep it off with his shield. It put pressure onto his stomach, almost crushing him. Connie lunged at the creature, poofing it. "I think it's just down this way, hurry!", Connie said, as she helped Steven up and ran. She was leading by about a 12 foot lead, while Steven was wincing from pain. His stomach hurt from the mutant, but he was afraid to look. "There it is! The warp pad!" In the darkness, another mutant stood in the way of the pad. Its features hard to make out, Steven ran ahead of Connie, wanting to impress her by taking it out. His shield lit up the creature, as it turned to face him. It stood rather tall, with pink hair, and fair skin. Steven jumped back, frightened by the real size of the mutant. His shield illuminated it's face, as it revealed a face completely similar to Rose Quartz. The gem on her stomach was a mixture of pink and dark, showing her to be a corrupted gem. Connie quickly rushed the mutant, but the Quartz countered, and threw Connie behind her. Connie crashed into a rock, but Steven was too horrified to move. Steven spoke in a quiet, fearful tone, "Do you....know me?" The gem sat motionless, then responded. "R-rose..." Steven's eyes lit up, with a mixed sensation of fear, and compassion. He slowly walked towards the Quartz, with it still not moving. It looked down at Steven, as he carefully put his arms around her. He looked up into her eyes, and smiled. The gem, standing expressionless, showed a tiny smile, almost as if she knew who he really was. A tear rolled down Steven's cheek, right before he heard Connie shout. "Take this, you freak!" Connie slashed from the Gem's upper right body to her lower left, cutting all the way through it. Steven was on the receiving end of blow, and staggered backwards, as Rose poofed. "I got it! Did you see that St...!" Connie saw Steven, knocked back from the attack, and curled up. "No....No no no!" She quickly ran over to him, and crouched down. "Steven! Steven are you alright!?" He couldn't speak, as he tried standing up. His shirt was torn open, showing his belly. Small fragments of his gem fell out, as he fell back down to his hands and knees. "C..Con..Connie..", he was barely able to utter. He collapsed backwards, lying down on his back as he tried again to stand up. "Steven no, please, you're going to be okay, right? Right?" He let out a small giggle, and reached for Connie's hand, as she quickly grabbed it. "Will you, share this jam with me?", he spoke, almost trying to cheer himself up. Connie's eyes completely tearing up, she let out a small laugh as she cried, "Come on....and share this jam with...me." The light from Steven's gem faded away, as his hand fell flat on the ground. Connie sobbed, with his gem in fragments on the ground. Mutants continually closed in, as Connie was too emotional to notice. She stood by his body, with her arms over his chest. She began singing, quietly, as the monsters enveloped her, "The sun is bright.....our shirt's are clean...". She tried to continue, but her throat stopped singing, as the monsters cut into her, ripping apart her body, as she lied beside Steven, deep in the Kindergarten.

FanfictionThis story is for a contest, which I'll definitely lose, but I'd still love to be in. It mainly involves Steven and Connie, and is designed to be a sad tale. Enjoy!
