-Tessa's POV-

I woke up to my alarm beeping extremely loudly in my ear. I rolled onto my side and saw my bright phone screen blaring in my face. It read, Saturday July 22nd, 10 o clock am. That's when it hit me. Today was Lucas' going away party. Lucas is my 18 year old brother who decided to join the army. He says he wants to serve his country, but I think he's just doing it to show that he's tough and to impress girl's with his "jaw dropping stories." Things are going to be really different when he leaves. It'll be like I'm an only child.
I slowly got up and stretched my arms so I could help set up the party. I threw on my teal bikini from Hollister along with my ripped up Arizona denim shorts. Then I brushed out my long brown hair and formed it into a messy bun on the way top of my head. Finally, I put my phone in my back pocket and started toward the stairs.
Just as I started walking down the stairs, I felt my phone vibrate. I stopped and looked at the screen, it was a text from my best friend Sky.

It read,"Hey, need any help with setting up?" "I'm already dressed and I just don't feel like waiting til 12 to come over tbh . :P"

We really didn't need anymore help, but she was probably gonna show up early anyway so I replied," Yeah come over, but u act like u don't basically live here anyway."

"Yea ur probably right " she texted back.

I walked down the rest of the stairs but instead of walking into the living room, I stopped. I heard my mom and dad whispering about something but I couldn't'' quite hear what. I listened for about 10 minutes without getting anything. Finally realizing I wasn't' getting any further I began to walk to my couch, when I got stopped dead in my tracks. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. I felt my stomach drop to the pit of my stomach. I had finally known what the conversation was about. They had said the word no kid wants to hear from their parents, the one word that tears a family apart.
Divorce.
