The alarm turned on and an alert can be heard from the speakers of the building. "Inspectors on duty for Public Safety Bureau please go to the 32-A Apartment immediately. Someone reported that there were dead bodies found inside. Civilians are now being evacuated to avoid problems".
After hearing that, I immediately stood up and stopped what I am currently doing. "Jean and Tommy you're coming with me". After giving instructions, we hurriedly went to the scene. Upon arriving I showed my badge and introduced myself to the officer. "I am Inspector Amanda and these two are my subordinates, Inspector Jean and Tommy. Division I of PSB will be handling this case".
After checking the information I gave, he started to explain the details while leading the way to the crime scene. "The apartment was scheduled for a plumbing check. The owner of the apartment who called the emergency number told us that Mrs. Guevarra initially reported to her two days ago that the sink was clogged, so they agreed to have it check. It was supposedly done yesterday but the owner said that the plumber was only available today. They knocked the door and called Mrs. Guevarra but no one answered. The owner then decided to unlock the apartment using her spare key and would just notify them that they came in for the sink. But what they saw was the dead bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Guevarra".
As the officer finished stating the report, he stopped, twisting the knob, the once closed door is now open for us to see the horrifying lifeless bodies lying on the floor of the living room. The forensics is doing their job while I inspect the apartment. A picture frame is on the display and I pick it up and saw a happy family picture of the Guevarra's. Guessing the teenager between them is their daughter. But just to make sure, I instruct Jean to give me the details about the family. I left Tommy at the crime scene to investigate further and also to keep in touch with the forensics and officer for new information and leads that may arise. On the other hand, me and Jean went back to the office.
"Inspector Amanda, I send you email containing information about the case", said Jean. "Okay good", I replied. After skimming on the report, I can say that the family has a good reputation. Both of them were professor on a prestigious university and their daughter Kaira was an excellent student. She is popular with her professor and fellow schoolmate because of her high grades and good personality. Were they murdered because of jealousy? Who would have that kind of animosity towards the family? Is it one of their friends? But where is Kaira? Was she also been murdered? If so, where is the body? Or is she alive? We should find her; she might be the key to this case.
I was in deep thought when my phone suddenly rings that caused me to jolt. It was Tommy. I immediately answered the phone, "Yes? Any information?" I asked. "Inspector we found a note earlier on one of the rooms. After investigating, it was proved to be written by their daughter Kaira. Written on it was, "don't bother searching for somebody like me, a fading no one". We still don't know what it means, but I just want to inform you". And the call ended.
Kaira, who are you? Why would you write something like that? In any case, we should look for you. "Jean", I called. "Yes inspector", he replied. "Send a search team immediately, I want you to find Kaira Guevarra, look for possible places that she might stay, that's all".
After a hectic day, I went home straight from the office. Crime reports have been piling up and I never had the chance to go out. It sure was a hard job. After I ate my dinner I took a bath and lay on my bed, still thinking about the case. In my memory were the bloody images of the Guevarra's bodies. They were stark naked, eyes were open like they've been into painful death. A slit on the jugular area and dismantled body was the proof. I don't know if the murderer holds great hatred or just a plain psychopath. I really don't think that it was a carefully planned murder; I think it was done abruptly. And the owner, is it just a coincidence? Good timing? And the spare key? Most of the information was pointing to the owner as the culprit, but what would be her reason? A dispute? It lacks something. Anyway Tommy was looking information about Maria the owner and Jean about Kaira, that will do for now.
