Flashing a mesmerizing smile at me between our school lockers, he turned away abruptly as he was pulled away from his friends.

I clutched my pounding heart that was beating at breakneck speed.

"NICOLE PECK KAI NING! WE ARE ABOUT TO BE LATE FOR MRS CARRIE'S BIOLOGY CLASS!" My best friend, Angel screamed in my ears.

"Karry.." I whispered dreamily, still in a daze or should i say daydream.

"Huh? Karry? Isn't he the school's most famous guitarist and flower boy?" The confused Angel muttered.

"What? JUST FORGET WHAT I SAY! SHUCKS! WE ARE LATE!" my mind slowly returned to the reality as i pulled Angel's hand rushing off to Bio class.

"Sorry we're late, Mrs Carrie!" we whimpered an apology as her glaring beady eyes fixed on us. The class snickered away.

"I'll let you off this time since it is the first day of the new school term. But i must see you in your seat 5 minutes before i reach the next 355 times. Back to your seats!" She barked, saliva almost splatting everywhere.

Plopping back to our seats, we heaved a sigh of relief.

"Now, let's flip open our textbooks to page 143 on The Heart," she resumed.

"Miss Nicole! Miss Nicole! Answer me!"

Standing in front of me was a blur image of Mrs Carrie..smiling? Gosh, her eyebrows were knitted tight so i must probably be sleeping in her class twenty minutes again.

"Miss Nicole! Tell me what you know about the heart i just explained!" Mrs Carrie instructed.

"Oh. The heart? All i know that it beats profusely when a person is nervous or in amaze," i replied foolishly, still as clueless as ever.

"Wrong. The answer should be the heart is a important muscle in a body that does not stop beating from birth till death. Please pay more attention next time and class dismiss," she shoke her head as she sighed.

"You do know that it is considered as bad luck to be tardy for your first lesson, got humiliated in front of the class and answer wrongly ON YOUR FIRST DAY RIGHT?" Auspicious Angel emphasized while i just nodded my head boringly with my mind wandering off.

"Bye! I have to go!" I brushed her off before she continued her incessant nagging.

I skipped my way to my favourite cafe, Sweets Delights, to enjoy a slice of creamy strawberry velvet cake.

"Sorry all sold out," The apologetic looking waitress bowed her head profusely.

Sighing, i made my way out of Sweets Delight. What bad luck! Almost imstantly after i grumbled that, the grey clouds formed above me and raindrops poured on me.

"Argh!" I stomped the water puddles and bystanders must have thought that i was mad enough to stomp puddles in the bad weather.

I sat on the porch steps of Swedts Delight, hoping to improvise with what i had left.

Out of the blue, raindrops stopped dancing on my head. I looked up and saw Karry. He extended his umbrella in a saying that he offered to share it with me.

Awkardly, i inched closer to him. He offered to walk me home and i gratefully accepted it.

"See you tomorrow in school?" He winked, strolling away without waiting for a reply.

"Yah...sure..." i muttered, waving to the imaginary.

Bad luck?
I don't think so.
In life, there are many types of luck.
Sour, bitter, salty.
Mine?
The sweetest of them all.
