"I can't cry... Not now... no matter how much my heart screams... No matter how much I need someone... Anyone to help... Not that anyone would care...No one ever knows. The scars aren't on my wrists so they don't exist...Not to them... but the demons made there way to surface... Those boys never cared what they did or who they did it too.. neither would the school... or my parents for that matter. Maybe I would be better off dead. They wouldn't care anyway. " she muttered to herself.
"You never know. I mean... They might care." I found myself whispering to the beautiful girl with dark makeup on to make her eyes look more alive. She blinked at me, and shifted around the layers of bracelets on her wrists. She bit her lip and gently pushed back her lilac hair.
"How do you even know that Shad..? How...? You always do this... " She replied her eyes glowing
"Well Sera... I just always have been able to. Things are what they are. " I managed to say.
"Oh your no fun. You never let me know so I can't try for myself." Sera sighed.
Little did Sera know, it was in her eyes. Her light green eyes that shown with a broken light. Those eyes that use to be alive and bright, now dark, and glassy. You may wonder why I would know this, but I do. Sera has always been one of my closest friends. I have been able to see so much about her. Through growing up together in the country to going through high-school together. She grew up on a small farm out in the countryside. Her older siblings and younger sibling never really got along. She always use to come with me to some place where we could be ourselves. Away from our parents. Her eyes shined the brightest back then. Always glowing much like her white aura.
As we got older things changed. She wasn't allowed to hang out with me as much, and I slowly started finding the bruises on her arms and legs. She begged me not to tell.. Screamed it would only get worse if I did, crying into my shoulder. At eight years old... Sera was much older than you and I. She understood the world for what it was. Understood the pain, and suffering life brought.
Older still we grew up together. As much I wished I had told someone, I hadn't, and Sera's pain only grew. I went to her house one after noon and witnessed her own father coming after her in a drunken state with a metal beam. Her eyes were never the same. They darkened, clouded by the truth of this world. Sometimes I wonder what gave life this right to give out so much pain... Then I realized there was nothing that gave anything the right to do this. For a while, Sera and I grew up together as neighbors. Her relatives taking care of her. Her eyes found a little light but not enough. Her 11 years of life had been stained by the permanent memory that was her past.
She continued growing up faster than I was, even when I found the body of someone I held dear to me. His blood falling from the ceiling from the rope and open wrists he had caused. I like to say this is where I began to understand my ability of healing. My regret: That I hadn't found it sooner. Not long after, I began trying to heal her. Taking the pain of those memories to myself, but nothing could prepare Sera or me for what would happen next.
Sera no longer could take it. She began painting with red. Baby scars on those Beautiful veins. We found out quickly, her eyes dulled further, and she promised this would be the only time. And for a long time we believed her. She cleaned up, got up, and fought for her life. At 13 Sera was more mature and more of a warrior than I will ever be. However, Nothings forever.
The day after her fourteenth birthday, monsters of men found their way to her. They stole what she treasured most from her past... Her confidence. She never was the same. Her scars spread to her stomach and her legs, the red paint ignoring the wrists and avoiding boys from those who stole what little innocence she had left. Sera's eyes went dark. Those eyes once so full of life, gone. Forever, as she flat-lined.
I glanced over at the sweet girl with lilac hair and light green eyes. A faint smile on her face. The pale glow of her skin, bathed in white. Simple white wings on her back. Sometimes I wondered if she knew she wasn't here anymore. Sometimes I wonder if she was.
