The Angels

Chapter one: The Angels

I am the only Angel of the Night's light. I guard the Northern lights, the stars and the moon. I make sure that they are there to help humankind when they need it most. My name is Zeya. Right now, I'm sitting on my cloud, adding pinks and reds to the Northern lights.

"Zeya," I heard Nierahzan murmur. He came up behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders. Nierahzan was the most gorgeous God I'd ever seen. He had long, long bluish black hair and dark turquoise eyes with slightly tan skin and a tall, muscular frame. He was the God of the Night, and so, as fate would have it, we were meant to be together, but I kept refusing. "They look beautiful, Zeya," Nierahzan mused, pulling my hand back.

"No, there's not enough green!" I whispered, anxious. I blew green onto the Northern lights, and satisfied, let out a sigh and watched them dance across Earth's night sky. Nierahzan stroked my cheek with the back of his hand, murmuring my name like a prayer.

"Zeya," he breathed, kissing slowly along the side of my head. "Why won't you join me?" I closed my eyes and bit my lip.

"I told you before, Nierahzan," I whispered. "I want to be independent. I don't want to become property."

"You wouldn't be property, Zeya," he sighed.

"Yes I would," I protested in a calm voice. I saw a few of the stars going dim and my heart raced. "No, no, no, no, no!" I exclaimed, racing over to them and running my hand over them. "Stay bright! Don't die out!" When they began to twinkle again I sighed and relaxed.

"Do you love me, Zeya?" Nierahzan murmured, taking my hand and kissing it. I nodded.

"You know I do, I just love my freedom more," I whispered, not looking at him, afraid of what he would say.

"I would let you keep your freedom, Zeya," He pleaded. "All I'm asking is that you join me, as we were supposed to since the beginning of time." I shook my head and he took my free hand in his other hand. "Zeya, I will give you anything you wish! I will give you all the stars the night sky can hold!" He pressed.

"Nierahzan," I said firmly. "I'm saying no, and that's that. I've said no for three thousand years, I'm not going to give in so easily."

"Why not?" He demanded. "All the other Angels have paired up with their Gods already, Zeya! Orion is with Aslynnia, Julius is with Evangela!" I yanked away from him, annoyed.

"No, Nierahzan!" I snapped. "Now stop pestering me! It's really making me mad!" I stormed away, lighting the dim stars as I went.

I watched Zeya walk away from me for the thousandth time, her rainbow of blue, green, purple and pink hair perfectly blended like a mirror image of the Northern lights. Her skin was pale white, like the moon. I knew from memory that her eyes were amethyst purple and sparkled like they had tiny stars in them.

"Zeya refused me again," I told Orion when we met up. I paced angrily across the entry hall to his mansion.

"Brother, she will come," Orion told me reassuringly. "It will happen, CiVersa prophesized it, so it must happen. Maybe she is insecure about herself."

"Doubtful, brother," I chortled humorlessly. "Zeya knows her beauty and knows herself well; she has no doubts of herself." Orion placed a hand on my shoulder, holding his armor's helmet in his other hand against his side.
