I pried Jack’s hand off of mine, and we flew in silence for the next few minutes. It felt like endless hours.

“You want to race?” He asked, breaking the silence. I shrugged. “Sure.” To be honest, it would be much better than flying in silence, and it would get them there faster. As Jack sped off, getting a head start, I zoomed after him. The downside to all this is that it’s cold. The wind and snow were combined, making my face red as I zoomed by.

Jack’ a really good flyer. He and I were neck and neck.If I get ahead, he’ll catch up and vice versa.

In the distance, I saw the outline of a building become clearer and clearer. We got closer and suddenly, Jack stopped mid-air. “Woah!” I said as Jack grabbed my arm and kept me from crashing into the wall. “Thanks.” I said simply as I brushed a strand of my light blonde hair behind my right ear. He shrugged. I hovered next to him for an awkward few seconds.

He finally decided to open the window on front of us. He went in first, while I peeked my head in. I never really was a social butterfly considering I have only one friend.

Then I saw some guy round the corner and I pulled away even further so that only one eye could see what was going on. “Ah! Jack! More news I suppose?” The man asked. He had a heavy Russian accent. “Yes.” Jack said with a straight face. “Pitch is back.” He continued. The man’s smile morphed into a frown. “Where? When?” He said with a serious tone. “Back in the forest, and we just left from it.”

“Everyone should know.” The man said. Jack nodded. The man walked over to a desk sort of thing but with controls and stuff. He turned a handle thing, and pushed it down. All over a giant globe in the middle of the room, the northern lights began to appear. But they were sort of smaller, as if fitted for the globe only.
A few minutes later I heard someone coming. So I flew behind a nearby wall and watched carefully. A hole in the ground appeared, sucking down some of the snow. Out jumped a giant bunny-kangaroo sort of thing, and once he stepped through and started hopping away, it closed again, leaving a small blue flower in its place.

Just after that, a fairy-looking girl flew through the window, followed by little hummingbird people who resembled her.

I thought it was done, until a small man flying a golden sand plane squeezed through the window at the last second. I looked around. Nobody seemed to be coming. Cautiously, I slowly flew out from behind the wall, and went back to looking. Only one eye looking at them, I pushed some of my hair out of the way.

The kangaroo-bunny-man was rubbing his hands by the fireplace. “North, what’s the problem?” The fairy-lady said to the man who was apparently named North. “You may not believe me, but Pitch is back.” He said. The kangaroo-bunny-man turned around and walked up to him. “Really? Really? We defeated him last time! How could he still be out there?”

“To be honest, I don’t know. But Jack saw him. Pitch even attacked him! And he’s stronger. Much stronger.” North said. The room grew silent. What are we going to do about it?” The fairy lady said. “Well, Jack, how did you get away? How did you weaken him?” The kangaroo-bunny-man asked. “Well, um...I didn’t exactly put a dent in him. My friend did.” Jack said. Why did he have to mention me? I was seriously thinking of bolting. “What friend?” The fairy lady asked. Then he looked right at me. The followed his glaze and met my eyes. My eyes grew wider. They were all staring at me. This was a little new for me.

“Come on, it’s ok.” Jack said. I eyed everyone one more time and flew lighting fast behind Jack. All eyes were still on me. Great. I held onto his shoulder and kind of cowered behind him. He was smiling at me while my eyes were wide, taking all of this in.

“So what did you do to get away from Tempo?” North said to me. “It’s ok, you can show him.” Jack said. I wasn’t scared or anything, but definitely shy. That would completely describe it. I whispered in his ear. “Hey Sandy, can you make a horse?” Jack asked the little man who was named Sandy. Sandy made a gold sand horse appear in the middle of us. Jack nudged me off of his shoulder and gave me an encouraging smile. After taking one last look at him, I slowly walked out next to him. I held out my hands and cupped them, then a rock appeared in them. I squeezed the rock a little, and threw it at the horse. It immediately turned to stone, crumbled to dust, and the dust floated away in the breeze.

Now all eyes were on me again. I took a side-step to the left towards Jack. We were barely touching shoulders. He took my hand and gave it a squeeze. I squeezed it back and let go.

“Impressive.” South said. The fairy-lady nodded. Sandy gave forty-two thumbs up. The giant kangaroo bunny man thing had his arms crossed. Jack gave him an angry stare. He rolled his eyes. I honestly didn’t care if they thought it was good or bad.

“Allow me to introduce myself. I am North.” He said. “I’m Tooth.” The fairy-lady said. “I’m Koala.” The kangaroo bunny man said. “And that’s Sandy.” Jack said, motioning to the little man who waved. “What is your name?” North asked. I looked at Jack. “It’s ok, you can say it.” He said. I hesitated. “Elm.” I answered. “It is nice to meet you.” North said smiling. And I gave a slight smile back.

Suddenly, the all the lights on the globe in the middle of the room started to flicker. Then, they all just went off. “What the-” Bunny began. Then from the top of the globe, a black sand started to cover the globe, like a sea of darkness. Then it all came off and formed Pitch, but in a giant black sand form. It, or he, started to laugh, and then he just kind of fell apart. All of the black sand started to come towards us, like a wave. “Move!” North said to us all. Sandy was the first, he made a sting-ray out of the gold sand and rode it above the wave. Bunny made a hole in the floor and jumped into it, then it closed up. North went into a room and the door appeared to seal up at the edges. Jack and Tooth just flew up. Basically, they all did this at the same time. I was so confused, and the wave was too fast, so basically it collapsed on me before I realized to get out of the way. The last thing I heard was Jack scream my name.
