Your name is Karkat Vantas and you are deathly sick. You know you aren't going to last much longer, that isn't the biggest of your worries. You were supposed to tell the blind girl how you felt about her, but that was before you became sick to the point where you can't move. She's visited you multiple times and you talk like you usually would, however there is a hint of undeniable heartbreak in the both of you. Your heartbreak comes not from the fact that you're dying, but because you know you don't have the strength to tell her you love her. Whereas her heartbreak comes from knowing you won't be there for her to make her smile and keep her company anymore.
She isn't the only one who's come to visit you however. Your other friends come around too, but none of them stick around for nearly as long as she does.
It's the last day of your life. All your friends are gathered around you. You really hate this though. You hate feeling their pity, and you hate feeling inferior and weak. You hate the sad smiles you see from some of them, and you hate seeing the rest of them crying.
They all start to leave one by one. You know this is the last time you'll ever see them. And so, when it's only you and Terezi Pyrope left, you decide to tell her everything.
Only, she too had planned to tell you everything.
"Karkat, there's something I need to tell you," her voice was shaking, you didn't like it. You didn't like seeing her broken like this.
"Alright, make it quick, there's something I need to tell you too." You see her nod and open her mouth to speak.
"I don't know why I never told you any of this, I'm sorry. Karkat, you've always been there for me and you always make me laugh and smile even though you're pissed off most of the time," she pauses to laugh weakly and quietly. Normally, she had a beautiful, loud, boisterous laugh, but this was heartbreaking. You can see the tears well up in her eyes and you can hear the shakiness in her voice rise when she takes you by the hand and says what she wants to say next. "Karkat, I love you."
Only you don't hear this. You died mere seconds before you could hear the words, and seconds before you could tell her you felt the same way.
