I watched in horror from across the food court as my wonderful boyfriend of 4 years leaned in and started kissing another girl, who I had never seen before in my life. I wanted to cry. To scream and run and cry. I wanted to walk right over to him and slap him across the face. So I did. I would cry later.
"What the hell, Sam?!" I yelled in his face.
"It's-" He started
"Let me guess, 'it's not what it looks like!'" I cut him off.
"It's not!"
"It looks like you're kissing a girl I've never seen before even though we've been together for more than four years!"
"You have a girlfriend?!" the girl said with anger and surprise.
"Uh."
"So if it's not what it looks like, what is it Sam?" I questioned him, more than a hint of anger and sadness in my voice.
"Lizzy-"
"Don't you 'Lizzy' me, Sam," I was getting sick of him very fast.
He sighed.
"Liz. This is Amy, I've know her almost my whole life. I-" Sam was once again cut off, by Amy this time.
"We met a month ago!" Amy sounded very mad and hurt, like me.
"You know what? Forget it, Sam. We're done." I finished the conversation with that and I turned around and I left.
"You can forget about me, too." I heard Amy say to Sam as I left four years of love and trust behind.
As I walked toward my car, the events that just occurred replayed themselves in my mind over and over until I felt sick and even a little dizzy. When I reached my car, a black Jeep, I got out my phone to call Ella. Ella is my best friend and it's been that way since fourth grade.
"Wassup?" she answered almost immediately.
"Hey, you won't believe what just happened." I said in a slightly sad voice.
"You've just been murdered and are actually a ghost right now" she guessed. I can always count on Ella to make me laugh.
"Heh, not quite. I have been murdered, but not physically. And I'm not a ghost." I sighed, "I just caught Sam cheating on me." I explained.
"Really? Sam as in We've-Been-Together-For-4-Years Sam?" she sounded just as upset as I felt.
"...Yeah. Her name was Amy. I've never seen before her but he claimed he'd known her almost all his life. Then she corrected him, it was only a month."
"Oh my god, Lizzy. I'm SO sorry." She was trying to make me feel better.
"No, don't be. If he wants to cheat on me, then he doesn't deserve me. I'm already over it." I tried to sound sure of myself.
"No, you're not. I've known you since we were 10, for an entire DECADE! I can tell when you're upset. How about since you're in Colorado and the rest of your family lives in Maine, you move in with me?" she proposed an idea.
"Sounds awesome. I'm going to get out of the mall parking lot now. I'll have a few boxes when I get there, but nothing much. See you soon Ella."
"Bye."
"Bye."
I finally started driving and went back to my ex-home. I packed all my clothes in one box, all my video games and consoles in another, and everything else I wanted in a last. Before I left, I wrote a note for Sam, seeing as we lived together.
"Not-So-Dear Sam,
I don't care what you do with the rest of my stuff. Or you. Don't try to get me back. You won't.
Goodbye forever, Sam.
-Elizabeth"
And with that I grabbed my three boxes and took them down to the car. Once everything was loaded and packed, I hopped in the car and drove off. Not once did I look back.
