You cradled a baby incased your thin arms, smiling down at the small, frail innocence gifted to you. Today was considered your day off from all the hard labor you generously give to your home village, Ordon.
Your best friend, Link, hasn't been back home in a few months. You truly missed him, so you put all your emotional stress into working and helping improve the village after the invasion of the monsters who took the children. You always thought the constant squeals of joy and meaningless arguing drove you insane, but the silence of the village is what really drove you to madness. But to avoid this you stayed optimistic. You helped Rusl and Uli, the parents of Colin. Whether it was collecting materials for weapons and armor, or household chores for Uli.
Once their daughter was born you had to take time off work from the shop that Sera runs. You aren't related to Colin's family, but they treated you the same. In fact, everyone did.
You sat on the lip descending from Sera's house, just underneath the enormous tree. The buzzing of the large beehive serves as white noise while a gentle, warm breeze washes through your loose hair, causing your fringe to flicker in front of you (E/C) orbs, partially clouding your view of Uli's daughter in your arms.
The baby paws and tries mouthing at your breast, whimpering in missing for her mother. You chuckle and cup your hand over your clothed breast, shaking your head.
"Sorry, little Deku. But I'm not your mommy. She's down at the spring." You coo, kissing her head. Before she begins to cry, you blow little cherries on her silky, pudgy tummy, causing her to erupt in laughter.
You sit back up straight and sigh with a grin, letting your gaze roll over the scenery before you: the waterwheel, aqua peacefully streaming underneath the petite wooden bridge, and Link passing through underneath the ranch's arch.
Link returned home last night, and all of the adults were out of their homes, greeting Link and celebrating while you were washing everyone's clothes down at the spring. You ended up falling asleep on the soft, warm sand. You knew it was bad, and you were scolded for it the following morning. But never mind that.
You gasp softly to yourself, the baby still giggling in your protective embrace. You hadn't notice that Uli returned from the spring and stopped at the pathway leading into the civilized village, watching as Link approaches you.
"(Y/N)!" Link greets with a wide smile, chuckling as he sees a very happy infant on your lap. He bites his lip, suddenly worried. Was...the child yours?
"Hello, Link." You smile warmly, peering back down at the groggy baby.
"What is the baby's name?" Link asks, crouching down with a grin, delicately rubbing her head.
"I call her Deku." You chuckle. "Because it's like holding a Deku nut, she's so round."
How had Link not notice you were pregnant? Maybe you were already pregnant when he left, and he wasn't here to help you. He felt so horrible...
"Her name isn't Deku, (Y/N)." Uli interrupts, smirking as she places a hand on her hip. Link stands up straight and takes his hand away from the infant's face, scratching the back of his neck instead.
You can't help but laugh while you hand the baby back to her mother.
"It isn't?" Link clarifies, looking between you and Uli. The mother smiles and shakes her head, cradling her baby close to her chest.
"No, she's my daughter. Don't worry, Link. You and (Y/N) still have time." she insists smoothly, causing you to widen your eyes and blush crimson red. You didn't dare peer over at Link. You awkwardly giggle at her statement.
