Not Where I Wanted

The judge pauses a moment, adjusting his glasses. "Seeing that both parents are unfit due to the original custody case where Mrs. Cunningham claimed abuse and this case where she has the kids visit the alleged abuser by them selves all three kids will be put in foster care. Case closed." Now it's time for my jaw to hit the floor. The judge leaves the room and my mother starts bawling. My stepfather comforts her for a moment then follows me out of the room.

"Just what do you think you're pulling here? Your mother works hard for you kids and you decide to abandon her? I hope you get what you deserve in Hell you stupid brat!" Her eyes water and she chokes. The policeman that was in the room gives her a lift to the foster parent's home then picks up her siblings. She greets the foster parents and locks herself in the basement for a few hours to cry and scream at herself. No one upstairs could hear. When she emerged it was time for dinner and her siblings eat silently. Afterwards they cuss her out and lock her outside their room. She sleeps on the floor in front of the couch and her new parents try and comfort her. She couldn't help but cry. She asked herself, was it all worth it? Was all the effort and time worth it? She started to question whether her life was worth living anymore.

A few days later her aunt takes in her siblings but leaves her there. She's been disowned by her family and lost everyone she loved. She couldn't even talk to them on the phone anymore. Her, now forever parents, tried everything they could to cheer her up and make her feel loved. One day they threw her a huge party and all her friends came, but she still felt off. At the end of the party there was a surprise. Her parents took her in the car and started driving. She was so tired she fell asleep wondering where they were going. When they woke her up they were at the airport. Why the airport? She thought harder and harder but couldn't think of why, she was probably too tired and careless to anyways. They walked inside and went to baggage claim number five. She looked up and there was her dad. The man she had longed to see for a long time was standing right there looking around until his eyes met hers. He ran to her and scooped her up swinging her in the air and giving her the tightest hug she ever thought possible. Both parties were crying uncontrollably. The hug lasted for what felt like hours but neither would let go, neither wanted to. She feared if she let go she'd lose home forever and then she thought that this is all a dream. Her imagination gone wild but it wasn't. It's all real. They let go of each other and wiped eachother's tears. He grabbed his bag and they were talking all the way to the car. Once her dad was in the car Grace hugged her foster parents and gave a million thanks, not a single one being enough to express her gratitude. They all got in and never stopped talking. Her father was back and was able to live with her for a month every year. She wasn't able to visit him. But he came to her. In the end she had everything. Parents who loved her and took her in, her father, friends, clubs, school, patients and her family back. Life was great. She probably still lives with her parents, her father visiting, doing great in school and devoting her life to helping others. It proves that it was all worth it, every step, every thought. Was all worth the smile on her face and the bond with her parents.

The End.
