Sitting in the corner of a bathroom, nursing a large bruise that spread all over his back like a wildfire, was definitely not Phil's idea of what a good day was like. Considering that this time, however, the bruise was only a slight discoloration, instead of the black and blue expanse that had dominated his shoulder a week ago, he could at least take some solace in knowing that John had been easy on him this time.
This was only a small part of Phil's daily routine at the hell hole that he called River Hill High School (RHHS for short), home of the Hawks. Ironically, RHHS had a rat problem, but that's beside the point. The day starts with walking to school, then getting to class while blocking out the world with so called "angsty" music. After getting through the first 3 periods of the day, Phil always managed to piss off some rich brat that probably got the 10% share of the family fortune and was attempting to try and compensate, leading to him having to nurse such bruises in the corner of the men's room while his peers had a nice luxurious lunch that probably contained a bit of caviar or 2. Finally, periods 4 through 6 roll around, followed by his swift arrival at his house. There, homework became the most important task until Phil threw himself into his Ravens-themed bed and restarted the vicious cycle of life.
However, today was different for Phil, because the rich kids apparently managed to drive daddy's Tesla today, so they were lighter on him. Thus, it was one of the few times that Phil was actually able to go into the school cafeteria and eat the amazing food his mother always packed for him. After proceeding to a corner table of the room, Phil scarfed down his food while Green Day yelled at him to not be an American Idiot through his earphones, which were basically his lifeblood.
Meanwhile, Emily sat in the corner of the cafeteria, laughing away at a joke that her friends had cracked. She, unlike Phil, didn't have to deal with a group of idiots every damn day. Granted, she wasn't exactly the most popular girl of RHHS, but she at least had a medium-sized group of friends that would stick with her through thick and thin. Anyways, her friends resumed conversation after their bout of laughter, when a certain mop of unruly black hair with red streaks in it caught her eye. Following it to its a corner, she wondered why Phil would never interact with anyone other than his friends. Even then, they only got to really talk with him on Skype, as the kid was possibly the poster child for Vitamin D deprivation, he NEVER came outside. She had heard that he really just sat inside and studied, played his guitar, or occasionally played some video games from one of his few friends, but nobody knew him well enough to say for sure....
"Emily what the fuck are you staring at?" Gabby yelled into Emily's right ear. "What? Oh nothing." Emily hastily replied back, attempting to cover her actions up, but to no avail, as she could see the suppressed grins from all of her friends at the table. "You were staring at Phil again, weren't you?" Gabby pointedly asked. Emily could tell that Gabby meant business today, and that she wouldn't take any lame, dismissive answer. So, Emily reluctantly replied with a meek "Yes." "You know that staring at him won't do jack shit right? If he's so flipping dreamy, then go introduce yourself to the kid!" Melissa, one of Emily's other friends, sarcastically commented. Emily started getting slightly antsy, but Gabby managed to calm her down. "Look, Emily, you clearly want to figure out some stuff about this boy, correct?" Emily nodded slowly. "Then go introduce yourself, before we do it for you." Gabby jokingly proclaimed, although Emily knew she was dead serious. As such, Emily decided, "Why the fuck not?", and nervously got up and walked down the long path to the mysterious boy, hoping to whatever being that was up there that she didn't come out like some sort of nervous mess.
Meanwhile, Phil, unaware of the girl who was making a beeline towards him, had continued to listen to his music, this time singing along to All Time Low's "Therapy." However, looking up caused him to notice a very pretty girl with shoulder length black hair smiling straight at him, causing him to confusingly take out an earphone and look at the girl.
She extended her arm towards him in a friendly way, accompanied by her saying "Hi, I'm Emily. You know you sing really well."
