Faith's POV:
"So what do you think they'll do to us?" Noah asks swinging his bag on his shoulder as we got out of the car.
"What do you mean?" I frown at him walking besides him and Diane into school.
"Well we got into a fight and threw batter on the teacher," Diane raises her eyebrow at him, "accidentally of course." He raises his hands in surrender and I chuckle. "The point is they are not going to let us off the hook after one detention we didn't even finish."
At this point we arrive to my locker and they stop while I take out the things I need and put in the things I don't need.
"He's right." Diane agrees, "This is not going to end well for any of us."
I finish taking my things, so I close my locker and swing my bag back on my shoulder as we start walking again.
"I hope it's not suspension," I say, "that thing is permanent on your school record."
"Nothing's gonna happen to your shiny school record." Diane says annoyed, she hates that we're such good kids. "Speaking of the unfinished detention..." She doesn't get to finish because Noah and I both let out an annoyed "Ugh" as we roll our eyes.
" I understand from that that you have another explanation." She stops in the middle of the hallway and gives us a sweet smile, fake of course.
Noah and I look at each other, then look back at her and sigh in frustration.
"No!" We answer in union, and she smiles triumphantly.
"Guys!" Noah calls after a moment staring at the end of the hallway. We look at that direction, and guess who we see. Allison Clark, Luka Parks and Sabrina Johns.
Sabrina is Allison's best friend and captain of our cheerleading team. She's skinny and about my height, she has light brown skin and curly dark hair and big green eyes. All in all, she's really pretty, just another girl with the face of an angel and the mind of the devil.
They don't see us until they are only a couple of feet away. They stopped right there facing us, even some of the students stopped obviously expecting something to happen, and the mumbling around us grew louder.
Something was about to happen, I saw Allison separate her lips to let out a word, an offensive one I guessed, but she was cut off.
"Kids!" Principal Lerkin said clapping his hands together. "I heard you were very naughty, something I would expect from the two of you," he points at Diane and Allison, "maybe from you, "he points at Luka this time, "but never from you two." Finally he points at Noah and I.
"Principal, I..." Diane started but he raised his gesturing for her to stop.
" Now, it has come to my attention that this isn't the first time you've had a bicker, so, and in order to solve this problem, the five of you will be working on a project for Mr. Klayton's class and by the end of the trimester I expect you to become five best friends." He announced with a fake pitched voice.
"But that's..." Allison whined only to be cut off by our principal.
"That's not enough of a punishment? I know!" He turned to Diane, Noah and I. "You three are reorganising the library," he turned to Allison and Luka, "You two are cleaning the chemistry laboratory."
At his announcement I sigh realising I'm about to miss more shifts at work. We hear a chuckle coming from Sabrina, and Allison was the first to glare at her.
"Would you like to join them miss Johns?" The principal taunted.
"No!" She said shaking her head.
"I didn't think so!" He told.
The bell rings saving us from our nightmare, oh wait, that was reality.
"We'll talk at lunch." I tell Diane and she nods. I turn the corner to go to class, but I only take a few steps before I feel a hand on my shoulder.
I stop and turn around to find warm brown eyes staring into mine.
"Going to biology class?" He asked and I answered with a simple nod. "We'll go together then."
We walked in silence and I kept my head down, but I glanced at him from under my big glasses every once in awhile.
I noticed he was burying his hands in his pockets and biting his lips constantly.
"They might bleed if you keep doing that." I told him in a low voice.
"What?" He asked confused.
"Your lips might bleed if you keep biting them like that." I told him again in the same low shaky voice.
He didn't say anything, instead he just laughed awkwardly and I instantly regretted the words that left my mouth. We arrived at class and he sat next to me.
"I've been meaning to apologize for yesterday," he started, " Alli had no right to behave the way she did, and because of us you'll be missing shift at work and..."
"You don't have to apologize," I cut him off, "it wasn't your fault." I smiled.
It was true, I had no hard feelings for Luka. He did have problems with Diane, and most of all Noah, but he's always been nice to me. I wonder why?
.
We were placing the books on the shelves silently.
"So, anything interesting happen with you girls today?" Noah said in a desperate attempt to start a conversation. I saw Diane rolling her eyes at him at the corner of my eye.
"Luka apologized to me today." I told without turning to either of them, and it took only a moment to feel the weight of their eyes on me.
"He did?" Noah said in disbelieve. I nodded but he still didn't seem convinced.
"What did you say?" Diane asked. We stopped shelving the books and stood by the book cart.
"I told him it wasn't his fault, because that's the truth." I answered leaning against the shelves.
"Yeah, it was Barbie's work." Diane agreed.
"Only her work?" I raised an eyebrow at her.
"What is that suppose to mean?" Diane altered to defensive mode.
"It means that you might've had a hand in the situation we're in." Noah stepped in.
"Because I was defending her!" She said defensively while pointing at me.
"We know that, but maybe your methods were too aggressive." I told her. Suddenly I felt the temperature of the room dropping, and a chill ran down my spine.
"Her methods are aggressive!" Diane raised her voice.
"So you have to go down her level?" Noah said in steady voice.
She clinched her fists, and I saw something building up inside her. Anger, she was no longer defensive, she was angry.
She turned to look at us and her eyes were no longer blue, they were in this light grey color I've never seen before, they were almost white. I winced and stepped back.
"I was defending you!" She yelled at me slamming her hands against the book cart. In the blink of an eye the cart became covered in ice.
The three of us stared at the cart in awe for several seconds or minutes.
"What the heck was that?!"
