                                  CHARLIE

She sat alone on the swing waiting for the cold rain to began trickling onto the earth.

She looked down at her brown boots digging into the slightly damp wood chips from the rain last night. She had left her home at around 11:17 am with her army colored jacket and her dark wash jeans. She was alone most of the time always walking somewhere new. She didn’t have friends she was new to this odd place she was to call home but it didn’t feel like home to her it felt empty like the cardboard boxes before she was to pack. She missed home , her family her friends and really everything.

1:34 pm

A boy with a grey hoodie and light blue jeans sat down onto one of the swings next to her. He had taken a few quick glances at her but hadn't said a word. Moments later her looked at her and opened his mouth as if he was about to say something but the nothing came out. She thought for a second and then she looked at him and waited again.

“Hi” she started

The boy looked at her then replied seconds lawer. “Hey”

“How are you?”  she asked

“I’m good. How are you”

“I'm good aswell”

A long silence took

“I'm Quinn” he said holding out his hand.

“Im charlie” she said shaking his

“How old are you” charlie asked

“I'm about to be 17 in june how old are you?”

“I'm sixteen i’ll be 17 in December”

She  felt a cold droplet on her knee when seconds later it began to poor. She looked at Quinn and grabbed his hand a ran for the covered seating area. Both Quinn and her were covered in rain from running. They took a seat on one of the tables and looked out at the small lake with ripples through it from the heavy rain.

“Have you lived here in Colorado your entire life?” she asked

“Huh … oh no haha my parents were both in the army when i was younger so i would bounce around a lot but i’ve been here in Colorado for about 6 years now. What about you?”

“I just moved here with my mom but I lived in New York before i came here. What do your parents do now?

“Well the passed when i was 8 they were serving out in Iraq and the got caught up in some things so when i found out i moved in with my auntie and my uncle. But anyway why did you move?”

“Oh i’m sorry for your loss”

A small silence took up the cold air before she began to speak again

“My parents are in the middle of a divorce and my dad has his family and his company out in New York so he stayed back out there and my mom got transferred with her job out here so we had to move out here. Where did you live before Colorado?”

“Oh that really sucks but i use to live in washington. But what do your parents do?”

“My mom does real estate and my dad has a newspaper company”

“Oh that's really cool. How is it out their?”

“Its  really big the have a lot of buildings and it's always really packed and there is so much to do out there and at night broadway and time square are so beautiful It's amazing”

“How was it out in washington?”

“It was always really cold but you get use to it but aside from the cold it was really cool”

“That's how NY is haha. So what school do you go to?”

“I do this online school it's not the best where do you go?”

“I do online school as well haha it's not too bad you get a lot more free time but it does get really boring”

“Yeah i guess so”

“So is Quinn your full first name?”

“No it is Quincy but my full name is Quincy Albert Olives what’s yours?”

“Charliece Cassiopeia Madrin my oldest sister picked out my middle name when she was 5”

“Isn't Cassiopeia a constellation?

“Yeah”

“Do you have any siblings”

“No i'm an only child do you?”

“Yeah i have six”

“Thats a lot how old are all of them?”

“ my sisters are 19, 18,11, 9 and my brothers are 17 and 14”

The rain has died down to small droplets.

They are both still soaked in rainwater. Charlie looks down at her shaking body and quivering hands.

“Do you Want to go to my house to dry off?”

“Yeah let me call my auntie  to let them know”

“Okay”

Quinn stepped away and pulled out his phone from his left front pocket. I sat at the table and waited for Quinn to get off the phone to see what his auntie had said. I could hear mumbling from his phone call. Quinn ended the call and slipped it back into his pocket then turned to Charlie.

“She said I have to be back around 7ish”

“Okay”she replied with a chuckle
