Luke had walked away from the group, we are all sitting in a circle on fold-able chairs, on the stage inside the auditorium. When Luke came back he had a black crate full of papers in his hands. He plopped down in his seat, which was beside mine. He insisted we sit next to him since I'm the "newbie" as he says. "OK, everyone. We are doing four plays this year, one per quarter. This first quarter, we will be doing 'Snow White and Rose Red.' The main characters are females, and I will be casting who will be who for this play, I will be in it but I shall choose myself last. Mr. Burnes will help me cast everyone, so, no, I am not being unfair. I do love being the main role, you all know that but the main role is female and as much as I'd love to put on a wig, I'll be nice." Luke said, then he pulled a stack of scripts from the crate, took one, handed to me. I took one and passed the pile down. When everyone had one Luke said, "Open to the first page," you could hear the pages flipping, "now you see the characters." I look down at the script in my hand and read the characters in my head.

//SNOW WHITE - A kind and gentle girl; not the Snow White who is the friend of the dwarvesROSE RED - Sister of Snow White who is full of lifeMOTHER - Mother of Snow White and Rose Red who is the caretaker of the forestANGEL - narrator - can be played by one Angel or several AngelsDWARF - evil treasure hunting thieveBEAR - an animal with a secret*RABBIT - playful animal who is a friend of MOTHER and the girls*DEER - another animal who is friend of MOTHER and the girls*BIRD(s) - one or more animals who are chubby birds who like Snow White's food, especially cupcake (aka Kachus)*FISH - a fish that tries to drown the DWARF (this part can be doubled with other parts)*BUTTERFLY - one or more butterflies that ROSE likes to catch*VULTURE - a large bird that tries to carry off the DWARF*BROTHER - Brother of the Prince who wants to marry ROSE RED//
I was thinking I should play the brother, or the dwarf but I don't know. I should read through the entire script first and know what each characters part is, then I'll decide.

"Now that you know the characters, find a few lines spoke by the character you fancy and when you try out, that is what you'll be preforming. On other notes, the other plays for the year are undetermined. This is drama, our next will be comedy, then a romance. The fourth is undecided because the seniors with be writing and preforming this one, so younger classmen, I'm sorry to say you won't be in the last play of the year." When Luke stopped speaking, some of the people in grades below us groaned, unhappy about the new arrangement. They must really like preforming. "I do not want to hear any of that, you'll have your senior year too be higher than the grades below you and you'll get to be the ones writing and preforming for the end of that year. So, no complaining. Understood?" Without giving anyone anytime to respond he said, "good. Now, read through the script. Auditions are next Monday." Luke stood up, leaving his script in his seat. "Everyone stand up, we do warm-ups now." Luke walked farther away from the chairs, students following him. I followed as well but I was behind everyone else. "Some of our warm-ups will be like choir warm-ups. We shall start of singing our ABC's." Luke sat at the piano that was situated on the corner of the stage. He began playing some keys that we would have to match with, how high or how low. He was playing two sets of keys, for sopranos to tenors. We had to sing the ABC's according to what we were. As we started to sing, I knew this would be a long year and I hated drama.
